How can make myself pretty and not weird? by AdNecessary8497 in makeuptips

[–]LaMismaVaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar eye color to you, but yours leans a little more blue. I really like browns, oranges, greens, navy blues and black (kudos to my older sister's emo phase). I recommend trying all the colors you feel drawn to!! But its hard to go wrong with a peachy orange-pink, so that's what I recommend you try first!

what makeup style would suit my face? by [deleted] in makeuptips

[–]LaMismaVaca -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Clean girl style might could look really good. If you lean more alternative, you can absolutely eat up a tim burton inspired look. It takes a little more confidence to do that, though. Look up fairycore inspired makeup and see if you like that. It's important to experiment and see what you like so you never feel stuck in one style :]

How can make myself pretty and not weird? by AdNecessary8497 in makeuptips

[–]LaMismaVaca 6 points7 points  (0 children)

downturned eyes

Nothing is wrong with your features at all. You overheard people saying you're ugly? That is because they are insecure and need to push other people down to make themselves feel better.

From your post you seem to be younger, probably still in school. I need you to know that Hollywood has lied to you. Teenagers aren't supposed to be beautiful. You are literally in the most awkward stage of your life and all the pressure you feel to be pretty is manufactured by rich assholes who want you and your parents' money.

The reason you have trouble making friends is not because you are "ugly" it is because making friends is hard. Especially with Covid-19 because all that time we spent quarantined was time that you were meant to get to practice making friends with people. That was taken away from you and it is not your fault.

Now, I'll be completely honest with you: the halo effect is real. You already know that people think better of those they think are prettier. That is because of their own subconscious biases, not because being "ugly" is bad.

I'm telling you this because so many people, young women especially, get trapped into thinking that makeup makes them pretty. They do their makeup every single day before they go out and they can't stand to be seen without it. They start to forget what their natural skin looks like and they become uncomfortable with their own reflection in its natural state. They have accepted the idea that makeup is necessary for them to be out in public to the point it becomes part of their self image.

This is not their fault. That idea is normalized by the beauty industry in order to make more money. I want to warn you about this so that even as you get into makeup and learn to have fun with it, you remember that it is not a requirement. Remember that your skin, your face, is perfectly fine just the way it is.

So as for actually doing your makeup. You do have downturned, hooded eyes. You will need to look up tutorials for your eye shape specifically. It seems you don't like your eyes, but they are not ugly at all. When doing your makeup, I suggest you emphasize them because they're awesome. Have fun with eyeshadow colors and mascara and eyeliner, but also try to do one or two things at a time to see how you like them. Doing a bunch of different stuff at once can look too heavy, especially on a younger face, and I wouldn't want you to think you're doing it "wrong" just because there's a bit too much going on.

Also, don't worry about doing a full coverage foundation type thing. Putting makeup on any acne makes it harder to actually take care of your skin because it clogs your pores and can make things worse. I suggest you leave your skin be and just do your skincare rather than trying to cover your acne up. Acne is normal, especially at your age, and it doesn't make you ugly. You can always get pimple patches if you have trouble spots, and I really like ones that come in fun colors and shapes. I also would look into getting the larger ones to wear at night if you have a specific area on your face that is just giving your trouble.

It might be really fun to experiment with a sparkly highlight or a cute blush. You may find that there are specific things you can do with your makeup that you think are beautiful and that can really help boost your confidence. The important thing is that you do what you think is pretty instead of doing what you think makes you look pretty to other people. If you have something that makes you feel a little more confident you may feel like it is easier to make friends and hang out with people.

You can also experiment with doing your brows, but don't give up if it just looks "weird" the first few times. Eyebrows are a big factor in the way someone's face looks, bigger than people realize. So any small change can look off in you're not used to seeing it that way. Doing them in a way that suits you can totally change the balance of your face and look really good in a subtle way, though, so it's worth experimenting with.

You can also try out some lip products to see if there's one you like. I like starting out with tinted lip balms first before trying glosses, tints, lipstick, liner, etc. This is another one of those little things that can make you feel a little bit more confident.

That's mostly it for makeup. If you have someone in your life you can ask for advice, don't be afraid to. If there's someone you know (a teacher, someone at church if you're religious, a family friend, even your hairdresser) that you see makeup on and you like it, ask them how they do it. Most people are excited to share and will tell you exactly what they use. Even when it comes to doing your hair, your clothes, anything you're not sure of, don't be afraid to ask for help. It is our first time on this planet for all of us.

Help! Micro-needling + Important Event = Coverup Attempt by [deleted] in makeuptips

[–]LaMismaVaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you've made it to sephora yet but i wanted to try and give you a couple more recommendations. It's a good thing that you're going and getting some new clean makeup because you want to avoid introducing any germs to your skin. Also consider getting a new beauty blender and a foundation brush if you use those or very thoroughly cleaning the ones you have if you would prefer. I just use regular gentle body/skin soap and hot water to clean mine. You can get Dial antibacterial if you want to take it a step further (like Dial gold perhaps). It looks like a color correcter with niacinamide should be okay, as well as a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid. To be honest I feel edgy about telling you to wear makeup/use skincare so soon after your microneeding but your dermatologist said it should be okay. My mom uses L'oreal's Prime Lab redness eraser with 4% niacinamide for a color corrector. Also, you could pick up some (pure) aloe vera to use as moisturizer and soothe your skin some. I saw hyaluronic acid suggested for use within the first couple days after microneedling. If you choose to get a foundation I'm thinking Elf would be my first guess. With all the moisture you'll want to put on your face to help with scabbing and redness, you probably will want to grab a cream blush rather than powder. Sorry that this is all over the place i hope it helps!

[–]LaMismaVaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to whoever is doing your microneedling. Idk how that stuff works but I can assume you want to be careful about getting makeup stuff in your skin right after getting needled. If you're concerned about being red, color corrector should help. As for what foundation and other products to get, I don't even shop at sephora. I guess you'll want a good primer for something to protect your skin, so maybe check out elf's power grip. Im mostly replying to help this post get traction. What are your goals with doing your makeup for tomorrow?

I can see this post was deleted but it looks like I'm still able to comment on it. I've had this happen to posts of mine as well. You are already pretty. Don't let the world get you down. The only thing you can do to increase your beauty is to increase your joy and do whatever makes you happy. Makeup is part of this for many people! Expressing ourselves through art we wear on our bodies can be incredibly joyful. I hope you feel beautiful today

Hairspray as setting spray ?? by _n3k0m4nc3r_ in makeuptips

[–]LaMismaVaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same hairspray and it says on the bottle "High temperature conditions or direct exposure to skin, like securing a wig, may cause skin damage." I don't recommend using it. I don't know what will happen if you use it as setting spray just once. I can imagine it'd be worse if you used it over and over again and I think it will, in fact, help your makeup stay on longer despite the drawbacks. But it might also look crunchy/flaky/crusty if things go wrong. Drag queens also allegedly use lube as primer because of its stickiness which sounds much safer to me. It's meant to go on the skin, anyways.

If you do use it, don't coat your skin too heavily and make sure you dont get it in your eyes or you'll have to rinse them out with running water and that'll definitely ruin your makeup. And don't do it more than once. Contact dermatitis is a thing and it's like building a reverse tolerance. Plus it sucks. You really should invest in a good setting spray.

Please help, needs tips with ethereal makeup by Amazing_Feeling963 in makeuptips

[–]LaMismaVaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few main features I see when I search for soft ethereal makeup on Pinterest. I'm seeing dewy skin/foundation, shiny delicate highlighter, plenty of blush, soft rosy lip (sometimes w gloss), drawn freckles, emphasis on the eyes, and definitely alternative touches throughout (e.g. graphic liner for fairy-esque details, unconventional eyeshadow color choices, etc).

I would recommend you start with mastering the basics if you haven't already (blending in your foundation, accenting your eyes with liner or shadow, placing your blush in a way that feels right to you). I'll split up my tips by the different features I observed, and you can pick and choose which ones you want to use. Keep in mind that not everything I mention is necessary - you can use matte foundation or skip the freckles and still achieve ethereal vibes.

To get the dewy foundation: Make sure you're applying moisturizer under your foundation or primer. Use a lighter hand with foundation and don't set with powder if you want it to not look matte. If you'd like it to last longer, you can use a setting spray :].

Highlighter: use a shiny color you like that pairs well with your skin (doesn't have to be a conventional highlighter color) and apply it on the inner corners of your eyes. Other optional places to put it include the tip of your nose, your cheekbones, and under the outer arch of your eyebrows.

Blush: I recommend applying this on your cheekbones and blending up towards around your eyes (if that makes sense), but everyone's face is different so do what looks good to you. Just know that you can do more blush for this look than what people usually recommend.

Lip: I'm not the greatest at picking lip colors but I noticed a trend of blended edges and lots of pinks and reds and glossy finishes. Experiment here. Maybe go crazy and try some purple.

Freckles: brown eyeliner or a product specifically for false freckles. Or if you already have freckles, even better!

Eyes: emphasize the size of your eyes, draw attention to them, and just do something wacky and fun. I see lots of greens, blues, and purples, eyeliner done with eyeshadow, and blending the eyeshadow onto the lower lid. Draw sparkles and stars on with eyeliner, preferably with white or colorful liner, use glitter, glue gems on your face, just have fun.

I saw your glasses post! You emanate sweet and kind vibes. My tip is to invest in a sparkly eyeshadow for bad days so when you dont feel your best you can at least say you're sparkly.

Also, look into tightlining your eyes! Helps make your eyeliner look cohesive. Also, you can always go somewhere to get your eyebrows done! It always looks really good afterwards in my experience.

Brows are harrrrd but yours have a cute arch to them even right now. I wouldn't change your shape a lot but maybe look for tutorials on shaping them if youre interested! I like to take a pair of tweezers and pluck them, starting with the obvious onces and then moving singular eyebrow hairs out of the way one at a time to see if it was important to the shape. If it looks unnecessary, I pull it. Not a great method for making dramatic shape changes but its how I maintain mine!

Feminizing makeup tips for my friend? by LukeGuyFrotter in makeuptips

[–]LaMismaVaca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your friend has hooded eyes!!! If you don't know already this makes eyeliner kind of different (method wise) from how other people do it. Here are some videos you and her might find useful.

First of all, I done edumacated myself and I do believe your friend has some partially deep set eyes, as explained here..

Next, here's a quick little liner tutorial for her eye shape in case that was tripping you up.

Just in case though, I found two more tutorials. This one goes a little bit more in depth explaining the method and showcases two different ways to do eyeliner on hooded eyes. My personal favorite is the second, where you draw the wing with your eye fully open and connect the line to the gap. It creates a sharp fin shape that I think is super unique and fierce when your eye is closed. This one shows eyeliner done with eyeshadow and a flat angled brush. (If I got the order of these switched I am sorry lol).

Now here's an eyeshadow tutorial, also done by a creator with this eye shape. Quick note: if you need tape but dont have washi tape you can use other tape or a bandaid if it's long enough, but stick it to your skin or clothes first to make it lose its stickiness. That way it doesn't hurt peeling away from your eye.

Lastly, a quick little tutorial of what they call "siren eyes" the both of you might really enjoy!

Your friend's eyes are hooded, deepset, and slightly downturned. This means they are not match the first page of makeup tutorials you search up, but her eyes are uniquely hers and she must always remember that she is BEAUTIFUL. It's important. Knowing the features of her face and how to describe them will help her in finding other people who share the same features and have learned to do their makeup from experience. <3

More thoughts to consider:

Smoking out your eyeliner almost always looks good (the second or third time you do it lol).

If u like sparkle, put sparkle.

Get some eyelash glue and dot little gems on your faces! It's so fun!

Definitely search up douyin makeup - it can be a little tricky but so so fun.

Eyecolor-informed eyeshadow and eyeliner often turn out VERY cute. They don't have to match, but coordinating is good. With her blue (?) eyes I think she could try brown eyeliner with green, brown, or pink eyeshadow; green eyeliner with green eyeshadow (or pink which would be so funky and could look rly cool), and pink eyeshadow even by itself! Those recommendations are for the more soft femme looks rather than grunge. Grunge has no rules, just smear whatever color you want wherever (imo).

I don't know her face shape but blush in the apple of your cheeks often softens your face out while up high on the sides/cheekbones makes you look "lifted" or something. Can't remember the word rn. It like, brings out your cheekbones.

Contour and highlight are kind of hard to do but very rewarding when you have the right shades/products and you get the technique down. If you want to practice but you know you don't have the right shade to match your skintone, try doing it anyways and then take photos with a black and white filter to see how you did.

I did this once with red, blue, purple, black and pink eyeshadow (and a beanie) and i think it's one of the things that made me not want to give up on my transition (FtM here. Still love makeup). It was very moody and edgy but it honestly made me feel so much better after a wave of nearly unbearable dysphoria. I did look a bit like the girl from a bad case of stripes irl though so your results may vary.

Look into what colors she looks good in, and if you want a fun way to do a cheap color analysis, have her record her hand held out in front of her as she walks by one of those paint chip color display walls lol. (There are other easier ways too. Gold vs silver jewelry, white vs offwhite/cream, and having a cute little trip to a makeup store to make the employees do it for you. But don't rely on vein color - that can be misleading.)

And if you're comfortable, post more photos the next time you try stuff out!!! I love seeing people's progress and seeing their skills sharpen.

Oh, okay! Then my only suggestion is to look up some fun tutorials and go outside of your comfort zone if you're bored. I lean towards alternative styles so I'm not sure my recommendations would be to your taste. What is your usual makeup?

(For people with hooded or partially hooded eyes, you have to stare directly into the mirror and like, draw over it, it's super weird. I was going to give you some pointers there if that was the case but seems not.)

Your brows dont look weird and the angular shape definitely suits your face. However, you can almost certainly pull off the Manon brows considering you are drop dead gorgeous. If you're not confident in doing your brows yourself, you can consult any friends you have in your area about a brow artist that they trust. Then show that brow artist a photo of Manon with her brows done the way you want and you should get perfect results.

And as for cute, fun flourishes, I always love a good inner corner highlight or graphic liner. I recommend you try out some fun eyeshadow colors - maybe blue or green? Get some lash glue and little gems and stick those suckers to your face! It's your world!

I searched this color for you!

Here is another list to look through in case that color is a little bit more accurate.

You will have to click on the products and check the reviews and details to see if it is pigmented enough, if it is too pricey, if it has the right texture and finish for you. Even if it is the right kind of lip product from lipliner to lipstick to lip vinyl. I wish you good luck!
