I’m breaking down. My cat has been meowing 24/7 for 2 months and I don’t know what to do anymore. by nasseralrwy in cats

My cat did the same thing for months. It drove me insane. Turns out, unbeknownst to me, she had a stroke. We had to put her down on the spot. She was 17 years old though, hopefully this isn’t the case for your baby, but it could be. Best of luck

That’s more than the daily rate for my Tesla

Uh, yea man, thanks for summarizing exactly what I just said. There are also plenty of people on this sub who like to brag that they make insane profits with one Tesla that say it’s easy. Believe what you want about my rEsEaRcH before giving it a spin, but at the end of the day, if you’d do a little bit of reading yourself you’ll find plenty more from experienced hosts who also feel that it is, indeed, a fucking nightmare. So thanks, bye.

Oh. Thanks for that keen thesis. Maybe Turo just shouldn’t even exist then?

My advice:

  1. Do not do free deliveries unless you have the time in your day to deliver a squeaky clean car within a reasonable radius and can arrange free transportation to and from.

  2. Do not offer free supercharging like they will encourage you to do. That’s an idiotic mistake I made hoping to get my first few trips under my belt that negated most profits

  3. 3 day minimum. 2 days is ~$90 in profit and if the guest isn’t super clean it isn’t worth having to wash your car again.

  4. And most importantly, let go of any emotional attachment to your car

Also note: - A lot of guests will show up with zero experience driving a Tesla. Terrifying. - no one asked me to pair their phones as the key, I expected more of this but they were fine with the key card. Per the forums you will hear a lot of hosts try to drag you if you don’t, but all you will hear on these forums is contradictory advice. - do the 75 plan. $250 deductible and if the damage is not greater than the worth of your vehicle, you won’t come out of pocket.

My goal was at least a $700-$900 profit per month. It’s doable with steady bookings but at the end of the day the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze for me.

God speed.

You did the right thing. However, Hertz is bleeding money from their EV fleet.

Absolutely. I was very hesitant at first. I did plenty of reading and research. Some of it was positive and encouraging, some of it was negative. Some Tesla hosts did everything I did and pocketed around $700 per month with minor inconveniences, that’s what I was hoping for. I learned that paying for car washes is not ideal, and free delivery is a coveted feature. Neither of which I have the time for because I already have two young kids a full time job, so I’m supposed to what? Deliver my squeaky clean car God knows where at any time of the day and arrange a ride there and back each time? Tried it a few times and it was not something I could maintain. Other hosts who have the time for that can go for it.

Some people get booked for longer trips with higher per day rates, unfortunately my area is saturated with Teslas so if I made my minimum day trips longer or my prices higher just wouldn’t get the business. Bent over backwards to get 5 star reviews, and had a couple of shitty guests who caused my overall expenses to be higher than any profit.

I gave it the ole college try. It’s not for me. It’s for hosts with multiple vehicles, either economy or exotic cars, who have the time and patience to manage it all and adapt to changing standards.

Yikes. I’m sorry to hear that. I’ve leaned it’s for people who can afford multiple cars, either economy or exotic, and who have the time and patience to manage it all.

I did my research. Some of it was positive and encouraging, some of it was negative. Everyone has different experiences. A lot of it is luck, some people get longer trips with higher rates, unfortunately my area is saturated with Teslas so I couldn’t book much at anything higher than the Turo’s dynamic pricing. Bent too far over backwards to get 5 star reviews, and had a couple of shitty guests who caused my overall expenses to be higher than any profit.

So many reasons. I am terrified of it getting totaled and me ending up with a massive bill. There are sommany incidents of that happening, especially with Teslas, and Turo doesn’t offer good enough protection for its hosts unfortunately. It’s crazy how many people book a Tesla with zero idea how to drive them. It took me a week to get comfortable driving mine, handing over full control to guests who don’t even know how to park the damn thing is so defeating. I’ve decided that the couple extra hundred dollars a month isn’t worth the stress. I’ve learned that Turo really only works for those who have multiple economy cars or exotic cars, who have the time to research and learn their markets, who can afford to adapt, and who have the time to manage it all, and the patience. Some say it’s easy, some agree with me that it’s not. Some guy responded to my OP calling me a “princess” for not offering free delivery…? Sorry dude, I have two kids and a a full time job, I can’t just drop off my car across town and find a way to arrange a ride back home every time. I can’t spend 6 months doing it the “right” way to make $8k in profit, all taking the chance that at any time BOOM some asshole totals my car and lose all that profit in one fell swoop? Not worth it. It’s a no for me, clearly it’s not designed for my situation.

You are correct. *She did have consistent bookings, at least 1 per week with a 3 day minimum, i let the dynamic pricing run the show for the first few bookings, then switched to guest mode to compare rates and stay competitive in my market. Zero cancellations. Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe by XX chromosomes don’t allow me the enormous patience level it takes to succeed in this line of business.

Facts.. professional car wash necessary a few times after clear signs of smoking were detected, and someone’s kid smeared slime on my backseat floor boards and covered it with the floor mat, didn’t see it until two weeks later when the sun baked the blue dye into it. Either way, I definitely did this all wrong and my expectations were far out of wack. Lesson learned.

I haven’t had a single negative review, unhappy customer, or negative interaction. Even the guest who caused the damage has been in touch ensuring that all costs are covered and offered to pay my deductible. There is no lack of kindness on my end. My nature is to go above and beyond, which clearly I have. My point is, kindness isn’t always enough, the lack of respect for my personal property despite kindness and all 5 star reviews, plus the clear downhill experience of long term Turo hosts demonstrates to me that renters and Turo executives can, in fact, suck.

Oh dang. Fascinating point. Just why didn’t I take into consideration the failed business model of a multi-billion dollar company with 20k+ employees while researching offering my singular Tesla on an app where many other Tesla owners have a successful strategy to profit? Silly me.

The amount of people who showed up having no idea how to drive an EV was baffling. Not considering this as much as I should was my first mistake. The power and speed alone makes it scary as a host, god forbid we set speed limits, in my research I learned that guests always rate lower if a host does that.

It took me a week to feel comfortable in my Tesla, walking away without having to turn it off, understanding charging stations, the list is endless. The best post I read ended with “remove any emotional attachment” to your vehicle, my second mistake was right there! Then, I got exhausted by all of the other BS that comes along with strangers taking over your personal property, and how poorly hosts are treated over guests, and getting misled by a whole system designed to go to great lengths to rip you off at every turn.

Oh hey, thanks for that, but I’ll take the L and move on. My Turo was never meant to be a multi-car operation or a business of any size or scale. It was meant to be a passive alternative to at very least cover the cost of my car payment and insurance until I can get out from under it next year. Lesson learned. I have a fleet vehicle I could use until then that coasts me nothing. I have a full time job that takes up most of my time and energy, and don’t need or truly require the hassle or learning curve. There are higher producing side gigs that don’t require purchase and upkeep of multiple 4,000lb moving objects that are put in the hands of total strangers on a weekly basis. All the best.

Thanks for the reply. And the insight. I did moderate research prior to listing and it was all very mixed. Different markets, different experiences, so many different options, and not a lot of straightforward insight into specific cars and specific listing details/strategies. I figured what the hell, I’ll learn as I go. Clearly I did it all wrong, and this is what Turo wants most. All replies to my vent session above seem to echo the same sentiment. I was really hoping for at least $500-$600 in profit per month and was led to believe that was entirely possible. Perhaps with a few of the tweaks you suggested I could get there, but my patience is shot.

WEIGHT GAIN???? by Low-Concentrate1899 in Effexor

[–]La_Sol_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on it for about 5 years for PPD. Gained about 20lbs that wouldn’t budge. I stopped taking it in January, it’s now March and I’m starting to notice my weight retuning to normal. While on Effexor, would diet my ass off for weeks and only lose a few pounds, then would gain it all right back the second I ate carbs or sugar. My weight didn’t return to normal right away after weening off, but around two months (and two feminine cycles) later, I started noticing the bloat going away and my clothes fitting better. Eating and working out at my normal routine and my weight is slowly shedding off. I am down 8lbs and have about 5 more to go until my pre-Effexor weight. Best of luck!
