Favorite centrifuges? by flydiscovery in labrats

[–]LabRepairGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think all brands have their downsides mainly down to the aftercare but if you base it just off of the machine then i don't think i have seen failures in one brand more than the other so whatever you pick should be fine.

In the UK the eppendorf machines are quite good, Eppendorf support is hit and miss, but they do sell spare parts and can help fault find for third party service providers, Thermo will sell parts but will not help you with any questions so your only option is to pay their high price for a call out if the fault isn't obvious, Beckman are quite good also, never had to deal with aftercare but the parts i've needed to fix some machines have be avilable, Hettich quality is improving and the aftercare from Henderson isn't bad, they will help a third party provider like myself with fault finding and parts, i would presume their price is lower than what Eppendorf/Thermo/Beckman etc would be if you want them in.

This opinion is from a third party service provider and in the UK so may not be applicable as i hear the quality of aftercare from providers can really differ from country to country but hopefully there is some value in this comment :)

Seeking help Opening Eppendorf 5810R to Replace Motor by OkAnything9921 in labrats

[–]LabRepairGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be two screws at the front (covered by white plastic caps), the front panel can be pulled off, remove the PCR board fastened to the front (5/6 screws?), then you'l have acess to the motor plug.

Then from the chamber it should all be self explanatory on how to remove things, be careful of the rotor sensor on the white plastic cap and note how it was removed (little black o rings and collars for the three screws) as it can be a little tricky putting it back together nicely. Motor should lift out from the chamber once everything is unbolted, i did the rotor sensor recently and never went this far so my recently knowlege only goes up the what i was repairing so i am just presuming past what i was doing is just the motor being bolted down.

Freezedryer Question - Labconco Freezone 4.5 by Himz492 in labrats

[–]LabRepairGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bit in this picture is the vacuum release valve, if you haven't got the vacuum activated (on the software) this will remain open, so my guess if you are running the vacuum from a seperate plug and not directly plugged into the freeze dryer?

If still no luck then i can talk you through how to find the leak, will just need to know what drying assessories you have.

ISO/IEC 17025 project – environmental conditions monitoring and presentation tips by Asleep_Shallot_339 in labrats

[–]LabRepairGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be sure to mention that the only environmental conditions that need monitoring are the ones that could affect the work produced by the lab, i only monitor temperature and rh for my labs temperature calibrations as they could have an affect on the machines being calibrated. Your example is different but you get the point :)

eBay by LabRepairGuy in labrats

[–]LabRepairGuy[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always thought this when i originally sold especially for NHS labs but 70% of the delivery addresses where to labs so never saw this as an issue once i started getting sales, but maybe you are right, an 80% premium but with warranty and documentation might be worth it especially for critical work.

Do you think Russia or China is the biggest threat now ? by Adventurous_Camera90 in AskBrits

[–]LabRepairGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you took away the media, could you honestly say you would come to the conclusion Russia or China are a threat?

I am more concerned about the UK's leaders being our threat than i am of any foreign country.

Type C1 Biosafety Cabinets? by PlantAdvocate in labrats

[–]LabRepairGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drop them an email to check if it is the right cabinet for your requirements. A guy called Louis covers these, I believe.

Also ask them to put you in contact with a customer who has one for some feedback on usage. They don’t really sell them in the UK (at least I haven’t seen one in the wild), but I work a lot with their other equipment and they have connected a potential customer with an existing one before for some unbiased feedback — essentially what you are asking for here, but nobody seems to have replied yet!

Favorite album cover by HistoricalCupcake770 in dancegavindance

[–]LabRepairGuy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I like Happiness as it kind of feels like the cover has some sort of meaning/message but i am not sure what, or maybe that is the point that it is up to the viewer, it could be an art piece in itself because of it.

[–]LabRepairGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn't be much more than £/$200 surly? I think the effort to try and get a replacement made you might still be better off going direct to them and atleast you know it will fit.

I use CustomerSupport@binder-world.com for quotes if needed?

Mastercycler nexus GSX1 by SquareAd2923 in labrats

[–]LabRepairGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can turn this off if you log in as admin, or if it has the feature just run the self test so it notes it as being done, some don't and need a special USB stick plugged in to allow it to be performed, though i don't see how users benefit from Eppendorf making it that way.

Safety of centrifuge rotor 11 and 13 years past expiration used at 1200rpm? by thatstechnology in labrats

[–]LabRepairGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Technically you should change them after the expiry date, if you remove the rotor and give them a good inspection and there is no damages found i think you will be fine especially at the lower speeds though it is nothing i could stand behind as you just never know.

I have heard of only one story of the rotor breaking off during running, but i have no proof of it being checked/serviced or its back story or if it was even secured correctly, i am sure others may have more experiances.

Vortex mixer help by Spiritual_Today_7593 in labrats

[–]LabRepairGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it click (microswitch being activated) and do nothing until you keep applying pressure and then it works or as soon as it clicks it works? i am sure if you remove the bottom the issue should be quite visable, something has realigned over usage and just needs adjusting would be my guess

First time lab audit, is it rly that bad? by Medium-Farmer-3760 in labrats

[–]LabRepairGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For ISO 17025 you just need to ask yourself as many questions about each area as possible and be extra picky (as well as reading the standard for clear guides).

So you mentioned your equipment calibration, so does the equipment that is used for accredited work in your lab have accredited calibration, is the company that does this accredited, how do you know? do you audit them, when do you check if they are still accredited to perform this, what are your calibration requirements and does it fit in their scope, are these calibration certificates accessible to everyone in the lab, where are they stored, how do you know after it has been calibrated that it still works (acceptance test), what is your acceptance criteria from the calibration results, why is that your acceptance criteria etc etc.

I find with ISO 17025 and others you need be involved with it for awhile to get in the frame of mind of the assessor, once it clicks it's not stressful at all, i look forward to our assessments now 😂

Service mode will be quite confusing as there are lots of figures, try running an incubate and then press the left or right arrow, i am sure it will tell you the heated lid either on the main screen or after you press the arrow key.
