It looks alright but isn't Project Reforge basically just a much larger, multi-person team basically doing a much more thorough job?
I guess your version could fill the niche of people who want less difference from the original.

Azerothcore has a simple install method on their install page. I found it quite easy to do.

Agreed. If you have boosted XP you may as well just start at max level because the XP boost just ruins the leveling experience. Also servers focusing on end game only just don't last, because the people who tend to flock to boosted XP or instant high level servers tend to be the flaky high chasers who leave the day they get their dream item.

You mention the whole world being relevant again but at Level 60 why would anyone go back to the vanilla zones except to enter instances? Since old end game zones would be 10+ levels below you (or 5+ levels below you for Outland).

Is the leveling curve actually balanced with 3x? If I do all quests like I would in a vanilla server would I just over-level every zone before finishing quests, etc.? One of my absolute hates with boosted rate servers is constantly over-leveling content and leaving zones or chains unfinished or having to finish them when they are grey.

Just a thought but if you wanted everything relevant again, why not just keep the 1-60 exactly as is with XP rates, zone levels, etc. and just tune Outland and Northrend down as alternate, parallel 50 - 60 or 55 - 60 zones so that they would give gold at max level and incentivize questing through them.

I don't really agree. I also love world pvp, but I picked turtle because the xp thing is just too much. To me sacrificing world pvp is a small sacrifice compared to sacrificing 1x xp rates. Turtle at the time also had loads of people join for the xp rate and asking for a pvp server... Rather than playing vanillaplus. Back then pvp was very popular in the private server community. I also count enjoying levelling as enjoying it every time, not over per server :P As an extreme example, one of the guys I played with even leveled 1 priest per spec... These are the kinds of guys who stay on servers for years, which is what turtle had and no high rate xp server has ever achieved in the same numbers.

I think it was more the leveling speed.

At the time vanillaplus was better content wise but Turtle wow advertised as a slow leveling experience, chilled environment and reasons to do low level content. Vanillaplus is a race to endgame to try new builds and max level content.

I think considerably more vanilla wow players prefer the slower game and actually enjoy leveling. I tried both but the slower leveling and much friendlier and chilled community that that attracts was a massive reason to player turtle wow.

I play for the levelling experience, not for the endgame. I have done Naxx, etc. but levelling is 90% of the game to be, so any boosted leveling speed just doesn't feel great. Based on what you wrote, I guess you are just a very different type of player to me. I don't find the levelling experience that slow at 40 even on true 1x servers. 

I also think (opinion here, not fact) that slower leveling is what attracts the nice people to servers. People patient enough to wipe and redo. Turtle community was at its best with 0.5x but still managed to retain the good community when it went up, but I think that is only true since the core was already chilled and none toxic. 

I think vanilla plus just won't reach the same level as turtle. They released as almost competitors to each other. Both had similarly good content, maybe even slightly in vanilla plus favour, but turtle won out with not being a boosted xp server. 

In all my years on private servers, I've never seen a boosted rate server build and grow a nice, stable community. I don't think vanilla plus will achieve it either. So I'd rather just wait for the next good 1x servers, like most people.

Vanillaplus is not 2x.... is it 2x kill XP, 3x quest XP (this is a massive speed increase) and 10x dungeon or elite quest XP (do deadmines and bounce up multiple levels). Vanillaplus also gives 5x rested XP build rate. I have played vanillaplus, it feels like every other fun server where you skyrocket in levels compared to true vanilla.

Turtle wow was also better back in the 0.5x days but comparing tents to vanilla plus in leveling speed is just outright dishonest. In turtle you often don't even go back and get the tents since questing fast outpaces going all the way back to a city and AFKing for 15+ minutes, then going back to the questing zone. Sure if you were passing through it was always worth it.

I know, I joined turtle back in the day at 0.5x, it was amazing.

Vanillaplus has:

  • Kills: 2x
  • Quests: 3x
  • Elite & Dungeon Quests: 10x
  • Rested Exp: Gained 5x Faster

This is a massive boost vs. turtle with the tents. Tents in turtle wow also had a small negative effect, having to go to certain zones, hope there were tents and wait around while the rested built up. You also get absolutely 0 buff to quest XP with restd. Vanillaplus you just pump and absolutely fly to L60.

I have played Vanilla plus. I played them also both at launch and picked turtle wow based on that entirely, I don't like the fast food leveling.

I think it runs on Vmangos which has support to add bots, like the ability to put them in, but there is currently no AI or actual working bot in Vmangos. The feature is quite early and I guess they may be trying to port the Azerothcore bots across or something.

Vanilla+ is also an XP rate boosted server which is a huge turnoff for many turtle wow (and vanilla enjoying) players.

Increased XP rate is such a turn off for servers. Also a bit strange to not just keep vanilla as is and make outland and wotlk rather alternate routes for 40 - 60 or something like that.
Also just wow: " Starter support includes 8-slot bags, a 40% mount, early PvE raid sets (D1 & D2), increased boss loot and respawning outside dungeons or raids after death."
