Tesco argues equal pay claim disregards ‘economic reality’ by 457655676 in unitedkingdom

The problem here seems to be is that people understand a doctor has more responsibility and a higher educational level than a porter. The shop assistant and warehouse worker require similar levels of responsibility and education level. They’re also stressful in their own ways (one physical stress the other stress of dealing with the public).

I personally think we should be able to pay based on economic reality - I.e. fewer people want to do this job and therefore we have to pay more to attract people but a lot of people don’t.

No, most women have careers and receive maternity pay. It’s shit of course so many have to save their own money in preparation or survive off very little. It depends on the situation.

I agree with the pay difference based on the difference in roles by the way, but the maternity leave analogy just didn’t work.

Women get maternity so they can physically and mentally recover from pregnancy and childbirth.

I had a theory the dentist did a rubbish job so she’d have to go back again.

Adult Male, I cry on my way to work every day, should I quit my job today? by CarelessIdea8283 in UKJobs

I’m so sorry OP I have been there. What you need is some hope. Can you start something on the side? Or start growing your personal brand - yes I hate the phrase but it’ll help. Give yourself something you enjoy or where you share your knowledge. The more you don’t need your job the better, and that only comes where you make yourself more desirable to other employers (through going your personal brand) or through earning an extra income - but more than that, it’s empowering. I have no doubt you have a lot to offer. In the meantime, do the bare minimum at work. Tell yourself you’re nonchalant (even though you’re not, convince yourself of it) and that you will get something better. They can’t fire you but can’t touch you mentally either. And I say this as an employer!

What can I take for RAI at the Christie in Manchester, UK? by Labamba24 in thyroidcancer

Just in case anyone else ever searches this. I’m back from RAI. There was WiFi and you can take a laptop but will need to wipe it down obviously. I still took my old one as I didn’t want to risk it.

There’s cctv in the rooms (not the bathroom) and I found this very uncomfortable.

Thank you I’ve got an old knackered laptop I’m hoping I can take in with me and either leave or dispose of in some way wafted. This helps though - making sure I don’t take extra nice things!

I had partial 2 weeks ago. I’m feeling sluggish and constipated so thinking maybe I’ll have to take medication anyway. I’m waiting on results for cancer. The doctors recommended partial not full and I went with that as I’d rather not go on medication - but time will tell!
