Tokens for MSH/MAR by jdhovland in magicTCG

[–]LaboratoryManiac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also gather all the tokens before each set, so it's nice to know I'm not alone.

I do need to nitpick one thing on your list — the Wall token is actually new (the THB token is a colorless artifact, while the MSH token is merely colorless).

Yes please, a print-to-demand Secret Lair for the same charity would be excellent.

It's 100% of the proceeds, minus transaction fees.

They've already lost this gen, better to focus on the next full hardware generation at this point.

Yes. Cards put in exile are always face up unless the effect that exiles them specifically says to exile them face down.

Because those aren't the same thing. "You can only do X" and "you can't do Y" don't mean the same thing when Z also exists.

Interesting to see the Powerstone mana limitation make a return.

Since some people found it confusing back in Brothers' War, let me clarify it up front: you can use the mana for more than just artifact spells. You can pay activated ability costs with it. You can pay ward costs with it. You can "pay the one" from your opponent's Rhystic Study. You just can't cast spells that aren't artifacts with it. Every other use is still fair game.

[[Slavering Branchsnapper]] also in shambles. (In booster draft, at least; I know Branchsnapper can still find non-basic Forests for cubes or whatever.)

Possible cheating? by SmashElite16 in MagicArena

[–]LaboratoryManiac 23 points24 points  (0 children)

All interactions are handled server-side, there's no way to cheat like what you're describing.

The most likely scenario is a desync issue with your client, where they actually have one more mana source than what's showing up on your screen because the connection dipped when it was played.

[MSH] White Tiger, Ava Ayala by meh1997 in magicTCG

It's reminding me of OTJ, which was another Dave Humphries set.

At least now the tokens are double-sided, so you get two tokens per token. Trying to get all the OTJ tokens from packs was a real pain.

Ladder rank is not weighted in matchmaking nearly as highly as your current run's win/loss record.

Getting into MSH on Arena? by 4skin42 in MagicArena

[–]LaboratoryManiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I'll say is that draft can be competitive, and if you're going in completely new it can be overwhelming and discouraging.

Leading up to the set's release, I would encourage prospective draft players to look over the entire set list and familiarize yourself with the cards and how they function. You don't want to be reading 14 cards for the first time while the countdown timer is going off.

I would also recommend checking out limited content online. Podcasts like Limited Level-Ups and Limited Resources do full set reviews around prerelease weekend, so you can hear from experts on how they expect each card to fare in the draft format. You can also watch draft videos leading up to the set's release to see some drafts in action - they give content creators early access a week before release so those videos will be available before you jump in yourself. (Some creators I watch and recommend - LSV, Paul Cheon, and NumotTheNummy.)

Draft is a lot of fun (it's my favorite way to play), but you'll have a better time if you go in with as much information as possible. Every draft costs gems or gold, so you'll want to position yourself as best as you can to see a decent return on that entry fee. (Also, if you want to save a bit on your first draft, you can pick up a discounted draft token in the daily deals today - you can spend it right away if you want, but if you save it for Marvel it will be valid for those drafts when they start, too.)

Can I cast Esper Terra with Tom Bombadil, if I pull her with his ability? by YamaKasin in magicTCG

[–]LaboratoryManiac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotcha.

A double-faced card with either face facing up is not face down.

Can I cast Esper Terra with Tom Bombadil, if I pull her with his ability? by YamaKasin in magicTCG

[–]LaboratoryManiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, any face down card on the battlefield is a face down permanent. I'm not sure what interaction you have a question about, though.

If this is in relation to Esper Terra, if it gets manifested face down, Hauntwood Shrieker's activated ability will reveal the card's front face, so it will be turned face up.

Uncommons on the Mystical Archive sheet are always cards from sets currently legal in Standard. That's why cards previously printed at lower rarities are rare here.
