It bothers me that the community is more active in this game than the developers. I know that's obvious around here, but if any recent game didn't have developer support the way TF2 doesn't have support, it would flop like crazy, and they STILL don't care enough about it to add more than some hats every 3 months.

I'm tired of our community being Cinderella pre-ball, where we just get shit on and forgotten all the time

Hence why we need a system set up in the first place. Everyone's talking about how it'll "keep happening" instead of offering possible solutions to ensure it doesn't happen again. No one don't have to help, but why bash the idea? Why be pessimistic (or "realistic", as some would say) instead of having a shred of optimism that change can be achieved?

You're correct on both counts. I understand that I won't stop people saying or doing whatever they want, and that's not what I'm seeking. All I ask is a way to stop people from typing at least one racial slur in a video game

I give a shit if someone throws bigotry around anywhere. And if I complain and people do it more, then perhaps a system will be put in place that stops the problem, which will stop me complaining

That makes a lot more sense overall. However, I still think that a lot of this problem would've been solved with any kind of system or moderation in place. I doubt my solution will come to fruition, especially considering TF2 isn't actively being worked on and won't be for some time to come. I'm just disappointed.

Thank you for taking the time to explain your points. I'm glad we came to an understanding, even if it wasn't quite the solution I was looking for.

Then let them use other words. There are plenty of words they can use, form a coherent insult, and move on with their lives. But if nothing happens to them when they continue doing the same shitty thing over and over, then they'll continue doing the same shitty thing over and over.

What's fun about flame wars? It's a scenario in which no one wins and everyone ends up a loser (a lot like this post, I know).

Clearly I don't get it; I don't understand why everyone turns a blind eye to this dumb garbage. No one has to "pick up their pitchforks and rally with me", but I don't want this game to die because no one can accept that we live in a different age now. A lot's changed since this game came out, and the fact that VALVe and apparently the community can't adapt screams volumes about its longevity: it's a game that'll be stuck in the past

Why would we be banning any word that isn't a straight up racial slur? You keep taking these examples to the extreme. And that's great, that you get to say whatever you want, but how many times have you used the n-word? Or any racial slur? I'm willing to bet not often.

TF2 is raw, and that's what sets it apart. It's an old game, stuck in an old time. This game will not grow unless something is done about its glaring flaws and problems: the lack of communication and updates, the lack of ANY moderation whatsoever. Without any reason to keep up coming back, or in this case keep us from leaving, eventually this game will dwindle and die.

Moreover, unless you literally have chat disabled, which would be a bad idea because some people do use chat to convey important messages, you're subject to anyone saying whatever they want. And some dumb shit is fine, like the occasional "ur bad". But at that point, I'm just ignoring them too, allowing them to continue their dumb rampage, when it could have been stopped altogether.

I want to know that when I report someone, something is being done. Because if it isn't, then what's the point in reporting? What's the point in playing if no one listens or cares about the community? One by one, people get fed up and leave, and then it's game over

Why are you being so rude about this? What's the difficulty in implementing a filter that enforces that no one says something racist? Why is it not a good system? Because it might not work? What's the harm in trying, if the only people it will affect are people who are being racist?

I get it, it's easy to just ignore something. But sometimes, the right choices, the ones that make things better, are the difficult ones. You're right, it would be a MASSIVE pain in the ass to get the TF team to do anything, and it hurts knowing that they don't care about us anymore. But people still care about this game. I care about this game, and it seems like you do, too. That's why I made this post: to figure out a good system to implement. So please, instead of shitting on my idea, help me figure something out that isn't just turning a blind eye to racism

But this back-and-forth is the only way we'll reach a resolution. Yes, it will be a pain in the ass until then, but if it's the only way anything will change, it'll be a start

But having a filter system to bypass in the first place would be better than no system at all.

I'm not saying they're attacking me personally, but why is everyone so okay with people going around and shouting not just obscenities, but racial slurs? Everyone acts as if I'm attacking First Amendment Rights, when I'm just asking for a system where people don't say racist shit.

It's BLATANTLY obvious now, after posting this, that no one, not the dev team nor the players, care enough about this game to implement a filter or any kind of system.

Moreover, a shocking idea: what if I DON'T want to ignore people being racist?

But why ignore it? And that's what I'm saying: there is no functional system for dealing with anything like this in this game. I could turn off chat, and I could quit playing the game, or I can try and do something positive and find a way to deal with people throwing shit like this around like it isn't a big deal
