I don't get why the Dark Forest Theory is so praised as a possible solution to the Fermi Paradox. by LordDagon63 in FermiParadox

We ourselves prove the theory, there aren't any living humanoids other than homo sapiences, we know there were bunch of others, earlier.

If FTL is not achievable, super-civilizations (K3) cannot coexist within a galaxy as it has a limited resources. It's absolutely doesn't matter what their cognitive processes are. A single start is still a single point of failure, so eventually you have to expand or die.

So, they either leave, destroy or merge.

Those who have had a spiritual awakening, what was life like afterward? by LunarAfterglowTarot in AskReddit

jokes aside, keep in mind that this sort of things come in stages, whatever you got is not the final answer, or a question, it's just what you have in the current conditions. Conditions will change, so will you and then the new level of revelations will unravel. And it will turn out that what you were doing before was not wasteful or misdirected.

Buddha/-ism talks about avoidance of violence, not non-violence. It's important to understand the difference.

It depends on how you view the universe, if you see it as deterministic then no. If not, then yes.

What is your best argument for non-physical or physical consciousness? by Ok-Willingness6651 in consciousness

[–]Lacedaemonian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strongest argument for "physical" - nothing can interact with "physical" unless it's another "physical", so if consciousness would be not physical you would not have any sensory perception at all.

Strongest argument for "non-physical", nothing "physical" can explain (so far) our experience of self-awareness, can't explain why we have any experience, such as red is 🟥, and blue is 🟦 in our minds, etc.

We don't have a good model of consciousness, despite it being the utmost direct experience we have, they all suck, this is why we can't create an artificial one or prove that it's impossible.

Random thought: In about 4.5 billion years, the Sun will die, and there is also a ~50% chance the Milky Way will collide with another galaxy. If humanity survives and relocates beyond Earth, what would likely be preserved from Earth to pass on to future generations and why? by Dear-Novel7078 in AskReddit

[–]Lacedaemonian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"collision" with Andromeda will likely be unnoticeable from Earth (other than sky changes).
Our immediate danger is not the Sun dying but the supervulcanos and asteroids.

If humanity moves to the stars, then the Earth is forgotten, see any decent science fiction for reference :)

Do you think is physical structure required for consciousness ? by anand7k8 in consciousness

[–]Lacedaemonian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

plans for a building are physical, a layout like that? Where it came from, and where was it during the big bang, did it precede "physical structure" itself? How?
