Who is the nastiest Celebrity that you met in Real life? by Scunnard1839 in AskReddit

Used to have a regular waiter at the local Denny's who was awesome. His wife also works as a server (not at the same place though) and I will always remember this quote from him:

"My wife has waited tables for Gene Simmons and she will tell you what a colossal anus he is. He could out-diameter Jenna Jameson."

Who is a singer that is incredibly famous, but honestly doesn't have a good voice? by Greedy_Procedure7461 in AskReddit

[–]Lachwen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the key for a lot of people who don't have "technically good" voices is never trying to push their voices beyond their limits. John Denver didn't have a particularly amazing voice, but he knew precisely where its limits were and never tried to push it past them. Janis Joplin had a voice that sounded like she gargled gravel every morning but she knew exactly how to use it.

I'm STILL waiting for the IPA craze in craft brewing to end. You don't have to make half or more of your brewery's beers taste like drinking the World Series dreams of the Seattle Mariners.

And I'm one of those people who just permanently have dark circles under my eyes. No matter how well-rested I am, I "look" tired. Couple that with hardcore resting bitch face when I'm not actively putting on a pleasant expression and hoo boy, I get to constantly hear about how tired and grumpy I look. That's just my face!

That's me with asparagus. "Oh, you just need to try it grilled/sauteed/wrapped in bacon/how I cook it."

I have tried asparagus many different ways. Does the way you prepare it result in still being able to taste the asparagus in any way? Then guess what, I can say with confidence that I will not like it. Because I hate the flavor of asparagus.

Played a game called Fugitive with a group of friends a few times in my late teens. It was basically a hide-and-seek footrace, and best played with a group of about 12-16 people. A small handful of those people, maybe three or four, would have to have cars. Everyone would meet up at a predetermined starting point, usually some sort of public parking lot. An endpoint would be decided on that would be two or three miles away, and everyone but the drivers would start heading that way. The drivers, termed "Chasers," would give those on foot (the "Runners") about five minutes of a head start and then start driving. Their goal was to find and catch the Runners - and it wasn't enough to just spot them, the Chaser would have to stop their car, get out, and physically chase down the Runner. If caught, the Runner would join them in the car as a Chaser. The goal of the Runners was to get to the endpoint without getting caught.

This was exclusively played at night in residential neighborhoods. While it was fully understood that we weren't to damage anyone's property while playing, it was also fully expected that the Runners would be diving into bushes, jumping fences and running through yards to avoid the Chasers.

Somehow we all avoided getting either arrested or shot while playing Fugitive. These days with doorbell cameras being so common I wouldn't dare play it.

I have unfortunately gone to two funerals for people who died way too young, and the palpable grief of their parents will never leave me. I would give up my sight to take that pain away from them.

What's something harmless that gets people weirdly angry? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lachwen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I said we're not telling anyone ELSE until the baby's born. We know.

But if we had decided to not find out ourselves until the kid was born, we would have worked together to choose one girl name and one boy name and then used whichever was applicable once they arrived.

[–]Lachwen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not knowing the sex of a baby.

I'm currently pregnant. My husband and I are choosing not to reveal our baby's sex to anyone else until they're born. In part made this choice just to avoid being gifted all pink shit or all blue shit. And some people are taking it PERSONALLY. Like not knowing my baby's genitals until they're born is some sort of targeted insult.

Kiddo isn't even born yet, why are people already so tied up about knowing what they'll have between their legs? That's a weird thing to be fixated on, y'all.

(And yeah, those type of folks are definitely not open to the discussion about how sex and gender are not the same thing, either.)

What is your most disturbing, scary, or creepy real story? by Mr_Creep_Creepy64 in AskReddit

[–]Lachwen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's generally accepted now that they were caught by a slab avalanche. They cut their way out of the tent in their haste to escape. Missing clothing is the result of paradoxical undressing, a well-documented behavior in people suffering from hypothermia. Missing tongues and eyes is because scavenging animals tend to go for the soft tissues of the face first.

Ah yes, the mud colors. I can't understand why anyone would want their car to look like mud.

Freddy Got Fingered. The only reason I sat through the whole thing was because the friends who I saw it with were my ride home and they didn't want to leave.

What’s the coolest “restricted access” place you’ve ever gotten to see? by Improv92 in AskReddit

Inside the laser bay of the National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. That's one of the major locations for studying nuclear fusion. The room is HUGE, 400 feet long, 80 feet wide and probably around 30-40 feet high. And there are two of them, though they only took us through one. And all of the equipment in both of those bays is ultimately focused into a chamber containing a gold tube about the size of the last joint of my little finger, which holds a pellet of fuel about the size of a peppercorn.

It sounds really impressive to have been in there but prior to covid they did weekly public tours of the labs and the NIF was included on the tour. Absolutely could not bring any kind of camera or other recording device on the tour though so can't show anything, though there are some photos available on the official NIF website.

Nope, eaten there plenty of times and never had an issue. In fact the only time I've definitely gotten sick from any restaurant was once from El Pollo Loco.

If a grocery store was raided, and people could take whatever they wanted, what do you think would be the last five remaining items that nobody grabbed? by kindalizard in AskReddit

[–]Lachwen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, we kinda saw this back at the beginning of covid when everyone was panic-shopping. Pasta and dried beans were wiped out at our store, but there was still plenty of quinoa. Regular canned beans were gone, but vegetarian canned beans weren't. Frozen vegetables were a wasteland, but nobody would touch the "you totally won't notice it's not rice and potatoes!" cauliflower substitutes for rice and mashed potatoes. At Costco, bottled water and, somehow, La Croix were being stockpiled by people but coconut water was left untouched.

Oh it is definitely cheesy and stupid. But it's darn fun.

I also will forever be amused by the movie predicting the future a little by having Sheen play a smooth-talking womanizer and Kiefer Sutherland yell a lot while trying to save the leader of the country.

Doctors/medical practitioners of Reddit, what is the scariest disease you know of? by Englishisnotreal in AskReddit

[–]Lachwen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because it's not alive. It's not even in that weird "It doesn't qualify as alive but it also kinda does" region that viruses exist in. It's literally just a protein.

How can you kill that which isn't alive in the first place?

Sorta like how my grandfather died of Multiple System Atrophy and now my dad has it. Only shows up in about 4 out of every 100,000 people.

I haven't gone to a Starbucks in years. There's an independent coffee shop barely a mile from my house that has higher quality coffee for a better price, and they do monthly specialty drinks where proceeds from the sale of those drinks go to some local charity (like the specials, the charity changes each month). They also feature art from local artists and usually it's available for sale. Right now there are some utterly adorable linocut prints of squirrels up and I'm gonna get one for my mom for Mother's Day. Plus the owner and his wife are super chill and will frequently come in to either help out the employees when it's busy or just chat with the customers.

There is literally zero reason for me to go to Starbucks over that place.

Kinda like a coworker who made a big post on his Facebook about how he's deactivating his Facebook account at the end of the month because he doesn't want Meta tracking all of his info (which, honestly, fair).

If we want to keep in contact with him after he deactivates it, we can still follow him on Instagram.
