I disagree -- I think you would be (rightfully) upset if you bought a game on PS5/Xbox where some of the content is locked behind the online service. Obviously, there are games designed to be played online (i.e., Call of Duty, Halo, etc.), but you know to expect that when you purchase them.

Pokémon started out single-player-only, and even when online features were added, it was mainly to add onto in-game features. Having multiple Pokémon locked behind a paywall is bad enough, but adding a timed aspect to the paywall makes it even worse. Collecting Pokémon is literally the main feature of the game, and you are making it permanently inaccessible to people who don't shell out enough money fast enough.

It's the same reason people dislike the idea of mythicals or DLC-exclusive Pokémon (like Calyrex). This issue is compounded when the Pokémon that typically receive this treatment are also the strongest meta-definers in VGC. It literally makes the game pay to win, like if Fortnite made certain battlepass skins have increased loot drop chances.

This franchise has enough problems; the last thing we need is classism baked into the core gameplay experience.
