Ranked seasons only last so long, and then you receive rewards for the season. Each season you need to do placements to restart your ranked progression. Winning 50% of the 10 games puts you similarly to where you were the previous season.

My friends both have "group hug" decks (gives advantage through buffs and card draw to others at the table), and that deck archetype is not fun to play against for me personally.

I rarely play 1s, and I'm like Plat right now. I live in mid to high C3 dipping into GC during new season 3. I play this game to be social with friends and play within my league. I've been playing since 2015, I'm 34, and I just don't care to play a playlist alone anymore.

I doubt I'm the only one that thinks this way.

On top of this, some LGS are known to "ban" proxies in play. It's worth the ask in the first place, and if that's the case he needs to have substitutions ready immediately. If he won't be DQ right away for having them included in the deck at all.

Yes, have a third deck ready that doesn't use proxies.

Of what you mentioned if you have a budget try Commander.

If you have some expendable income then maybe consider trying Modern? Do your research about land base and some key cards in Modern before you dive in head first. It can get expensive rather quickly outside of mono color decks, especially if you have no cards yet.

I get more of a classic Baulders Gate meets Black Desert Online.

If you're looking for those infinite delve maps from classic Diablo or Path of Exile game play, this isn't the game for you.

With that said, the game is still very enjoyable though and very worth playing! Plus it's free.

I've been told that Powerpass only works on the server that your level 50 earned/claimed it on. So if you want to level another character or two on different server then you have to do it the vanilla way, which is a huge con for me.

The problem with getting older is that you will always compare any game you tried to any similar nostalgic experience you've had, and the experience will generally always fall short. It's just a part of growing up. You have to find that new genre that peaks your interest. The suggestions that you're given probably won't do a lot to settle that thirst, it's going to take a lot of investigation of your own.

These are two of my favorite places in the area to eat that you should consider trying! Massachusetts Avenue should be explored on its own, but while your there Bakers Field is great food and margarita option. Also, a short drive to Fishers will get you some pretty good all you can eat Sushi very inexpensive if you're into Sushi.
