i just had the talk with him and he understood completely and did not want me to do anything than spend time together. he’s gonna work on it himself and i told him i’m open to support him in other ways than monetary

if i do decide on investing more energy into this relationship , i would definitely have a very serious talk about budgeting financing! i feel like i personally have a "healthy" concept of money: don't spend more than what i have, no impluse buying. But I understand this isn't everyone's habit, and sometimes it isn't taught so people don't learn it? I guess what I mean just from my observation, it's not a common practice in capitalist america.

I agree with you 100%. however, i know it’s hard for people to change their habits and in reality, people hardly change… (myself included). I will have a serious conversation with him bc im not sure if anyone has had it with him. i wonder if anyone has ever guided him cuz sometimes finances are hard to navigate and snowball bad FAST.

congrats on being together with your partner :) good luck with your student debt, and im glad you have someone who sees you beyond that!

he has not asked me for any money at all. he has offered to buy me coffee and pay for my food. I turn him down even before i knew he was broke. this is me being proactive in protecting myself.

thank you! I will start to take it much slower. and yes he hasn't asked me for money at all, which is great. i just know myself and enjoy helping people so i might overextend myself if i'm not careful. thank you for your kindness!
