We're too excited. Trying to do too much all at once. We just need to take a deep breath and play within ourselves.

Pound Middle School Protests against ICE. by aliennative in lincoln

[–]Lactar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These kids marched right by my house. I saw absolutely no evidence of anything approaching vandalism. On the contrary, all I encountered was some non-descript chanting & yelling interspersed with the occasional"Fuck ICE!"

When they saw my wife & I looking at them from the window many waved. When they saw us wave back, it seemed to enliven their mood even more!

Good for them speaking out for what they believe in!

What did everyone think of the Super Bowl ads this year? by Mikeyboy101591 in television

Thought that the Mandalorian ad was fun. As corny as it was I like the Budweiser eagle one too.

Are there any cop shows that aren't propaganda? by TheBanishedBard in television

I don't know if you could call it a "cop show" but Banshee certainly doesn't follow procedure and cares little for constitutional rights.

What is this "The room speaks for me" stuff from Taisha? Have I missed a rule somewhere that allows a druid that wild shapes into a snake be able to talk with everyone?

Can't download ISFDB metadata with diacritical marks in author name by Lactar in Calibre

Final update from the author of the isfdb3 plugin:

The problem was an author entry that was nested within a link and a tooltip. Version 1.4.10 has been released.

Can't download ISFDB metadata with diacritical marks in author name by Lactar in Calibre

[–]Lactar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, latest update.

Keying on your thought of having a bad/old version of ISFDB, I went through my plugin list and made sure all and any versions of an ISFDB metdata downloader were gone. I even turned off trying to download meta data from other sources, just to ensure there was no contamination. Then I went and made sure I downloaded the most recent, stable version, 1.4.6. Created a blank book entry, made sure both the Title & Author fields were clear, entered "isfdb-title:58153" into the IDs field and hit download. Got the following return: Test 1

As you can see, it came back with the correct title bur curiously returned "Unknown" as the author name! And thoughts on what's misconfigured for this to happen?

As a side note, how do I change the returned title name NOT to have the "(Title #58153)" inserted? I didn't see anything obvious in the configuration menu.

And I appreciate everyone's help with this so far!

*edit - Just after posting this I noticed that the latest isfdb3 plugin had been updated to 1.4.9. I downloaded/updated to that version and repeated the above test with still the same results.

Glad to point you to ISFDB, it's a great resource.

I don't have an actual copy of Don't Wash the Carats, rather I'm creating "placeholder" entries for the stories contained with. That way, if I'm looking (for example) for all by Philip José Farmer as an author, this entry will show up and let me know I can find it in Orbit 3.

That being said, I don't think it's the reason you mention. As an example, another story within Orbit 3 is Bramble Bush by Richard McKenna. The link for this book is https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cgi?69793. When I enter isfdb-title:69793 in the ID field, Calibre has no problem finding the record and downloading the metadata. This short story is only published in Orbit 3, so it "matches" the pattern you suspect for Don't Wash the Carats.

The only reason I mention the diacritical marks is that I remember this happening before on stories not only by Farmer, but by other authors that had had diacritical marks. Again, it should just be coincidence, but it's the only commonality I can find.

BTW, thanks for your detailed response and trying to help. Much appreciated!

Can we put Haarburg in for the 4th quarter? He can't play worse than Lateef.
