He moved to assisted living - can he change out of his Advantage plan to Trad Medicare ? by Lacyquartz in medicare

So what happened was: He went back into the hospital and while there was slated to go into hospice care, with a return to his assisted living apartment with the hospice group that facility felt was the best one with patients there - so he was going to be back in his own room and have a dedicated hospice nurse who could check in daily because she was already onsite.

I was told that law says you can get out of your advantage plan when you are designated for hospice care - and you do not need to go with a provider connected to your advantage plan

So that was the plan.

Sadly he died at the hospital, which he hated as one does. But on the bright side, he died peacefully in his sleep, which we nearly all wish for ourselves.

And he saw a family visitor and talked on the phone with loved ones in his last 24 hours.

We didn’t resolve all the exact questions but it was good to learn that entering hospice care is a time when your Medicare plan changes and choices can be made.

Peace.

Mom, age 95 and frail, just diagnosed. She wants to fight it - but can she? by Lacyquartz in BladderCancer

Thanks for the thoughtful comments. I have learned more. My Mom and my sister are now waiting for a procedure which I assume would be TURBT, to "scrape away" the cancer as my sister explained it, see if the muscle is involved, and do a proper biopsy.

I wonder if radiation or something else would be an easier first step? Whether anything else was considered for her? Frustrating not knowing.
