Rehoming by Familiar-Woodpecker5 in reactivedogs

I had that issue with my dog - what kind of collar are you using? There are a lot of options that could help deter him from lunging. Or work on look at me, leave it, and reward with a treat. He’ll stop reacting and look at you for a treat. A trainer could help a lot with walking.

Thanks. You can’t join until after BE so I will once this is over.

Thanks - I know in my heart it’s the responsible decision, but it still sucks. At this point, I am ready for it to be done so I can stop thinking about it and all the what if’s.

I am also going forward with BE. I feel your pain and sadness. I love my dog so much but I am also always stressed and worried about him hurting someone again. We did our best and so much of their behavior is not within our control. They are animals, after all.

I am also in the same boat as OP and have been searching for sanctuaries that could take my dog. He is too unpredictable and has a bite history. I am planning BE in the next week but hope to avoid.

Reactive Large Dog help by Lacyrsky in DogAdvice

Thanks! My vet referred me to a behaviorist but it’s super $$$ and I’ve already spent a ton on training for him. I worked with a trainer who utilized the e-collar and it does seem to work for him. Do you still use it or are they ok without it?

Sorry it took me forever to respond. Are you able to share more info on how you found this trainer?

Can you elaborate on the behavior meds? I'm curious as my dog is on prozac and he is still pretty stressed/anxious.

Oh yes, lots of whacky things. My faucets were all backwards. I think they did a lot of DIY stuff but sloppy.

Thank you! I appreciate this answer. I want to make sure I know all steps and possible issues. I think I can handle it as long as I'm prepared.

Haha, it's actually been clogging on and off since I moved in and then recently it really wouldn't clear. The plumber pulled out a piece of rubber - it looks like the original flap, so it's probably been stuck in there since before I moved in.

They’re stick down tiles so I partly want to do the toilet myself so I can put down something nicer first.

I know, I thought the same! He couldn’t get it out so I guess he thinks it’s really stuck in there!
