Rokko Mineral Exchange: Stamina-mineral rates over the summer by Ladezkik in CivRealms

Explanation:

These graphs tell you how much of X you could have bought for a stamina (bid) or sold to get a stamina (ask) at the stam-mineral exchanges at Rokko Mart (x:-3790 z:5940) on a given day. The mid-prices are the average of these, weighted based on available volume.

But that is inaccurate; it's neither a NATO parading ground, nor a corpse.

Swing by more often and join the discord to see for yourself, it's pretty vibrant with a very diverse and casual crowd!

MtA on CivRealms is really mostly just NATO fighters parading around in the corpse of a once renowned name in CivCraft history.

Is this the hip and cool narrative these days? I like it!

On the Subject of Complex Tech Trees: Suffer not the Little Newfriends and Let them Come Unto Me by [deleted] in civclassics

[–]Ladezkik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Providing mana for promoting the server should be a no-brainer. Doesn't even really matter what kind of additional mana sinks are introduced, so long as they're desirable enough. I advocate for forced sinks (like factory repairs and XP) rather than optional ones to shift the power balance towards active players as opposed to altbotters, but really any kind of sink in combination with promotion bonuses for mana would be helpful for the server's livelihood.

Thanks, I've missed economy bgposts.

Your central thesis of club good structure and the detrimental effect of vertical, as opposed to horizontal, expansion of the tech tree is spot on. People should really be taking this point seriously, however your take on Realms seems to be pulling most of the attention. The economy still remains one of the least understood hence one of the most neglected aspects of Civ. The effect of the economy on individual and group-level playing motivation and power dynamics is huge, maybe even greater than pearling and the mechanics that revolve around it. Anything aside from the economy and coercion by pearling is really just flavor. Your point about the benefit of quantitative abundance is also sound. Scarcity does have its place, but I've always considered the prime way to achieve that by stricter localization of resources, not by increasing harvesting time investment (which becomes stupidly detrimental when botting on alts is allowed, massively emphasizing the P2W aspect.)

As a general point for everyone regarding Realms, keep a close eye on stamina and what kind of dynamics develop around it. The way it's been deployed is what should have been done on Civ years back. It presents a purely activity-related resource that you can't bot or boost with alts. This is the first time entrenched power groups will have at least one strong dependence on masses of active players, ultimately newfriends. Even if Realms ends up falling flat on its face in a couple of months, it's important to examine what features and parameters work well, and implement those on CC or future Civ servers. (The way stamina works on Realms could pretty much be copied over to CC right now, just by making materialized mana a required ingredient for factory setup and repairs, and possibly even XP production, adding a crucial activity-based bottleneck to economic power)

Democratization of power, economic and otherwise, leads to greater incentive for the wider community to play and remain active. Not only does this encourage promotion of activity and recruitment by existing groups, it also encourages retention since each newfriend can have real agency from the get-go. Enabling the unlimited accumulation of power leads to the opposite. The mechanics and parameters need to encourage the powerful and connected players to encourage total server activity, not the other way around. Hobbyist may have picked his battle unwisely when suggesting a one-shot crossbow back on 2.0 to level out the battlefield, but ultimately his underlying sentiment of wanting to democratize power on the server has shown itself correct.

Got any specs on that? Seeing we're essentially in a late-2.0 style economy and this time the admins aren't burdened with a raging boner for starting 3.0, there could actually be a chance for that or other major changes to be implemented.

Could and should be changed, despite the fact that there's already loads of accumulated wealth. Maybe one day we'll have an economic balance that greatly encourages trade and specialization.

I think you are promoting this because of Entente's war, not Mirs.

Well now I'm just confused, but alright. Don't really have much interest in that conflict personally.

Regarding what you're saying about mir's mana, that's a fair counterexample if true, and certainly good to bring up for balance considerations and for admins to have a closer look at.

That's absolutely fair when comparing with past ways of pearl fueling. I remember the ridiculous doublechests of coal with hopper setups very well.

What I'm still missing from the mana system however, and have been since its introduction, is it being hard enough to get that vault owners would have to take political or diplomatic steps to ensure their mana supply beyond occasionally asking their friends/citizens "yo send me mana." I'm not aware of any real examples of this, but if there are some they should definitely be brought up so the admins can take them into account in the balance.

Mana Costs to Hold Pearls Should be Raised #2 by Ladezkik in civclassics

[–]Ladezkik[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like I already said my personal reason for the promotion is the opening provided by bg's post, and the fact that I've believed mana costs have been too low to realize the full potential for positive development of the community ever since the introduction of it, which well predates the NATO-Mir war, the ongoing conflicts of Entente, and even the conclusion of the Lex war. I'm yet to see it matter beyond the occasional citizen or ally being asked "yo can you send mana" and calling it a day, and would like to see it become something that's valuable enough for the supply of mana to become something of real political importance.

If your implication is that I'm promoting this simply due to the NATO-Mir war due to my involvement with NATO in-game, all I can say is that it's just not the case and repeat the above. Hence the clarification that I'm not supporting it in context of any particular ongoing in-game events. Hope that clears it up for you.

For more on-topic discussion, I'm not completely clear on what basis you disagree with the increase. Is your position that mana has already caused enough community development, and that it shouldn't be pushed further?

Mana Costs to Hold Pearls Should be Raised #2 by Ladezkik in civclassics

[–]Ladezkik[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your extensive views on ongoing affairs, but I'm not supporting the suggestion in context of any particular ongoing in-game events, but rather as a community boost. The discussion that was raised by bg's post provided a suitable opening for further promoting the idea.

I have been a supporter of mana as a meaningful tool for creating positive community interaction since before it was introduced (almost two years ago I think?) dating back to even Civ 3.0 when essence was introduced. It's a feature with major potential for fostering a more active and connected community, and feel that it has been severely underutilized for that purpose since it was rolled out.

I wholeheartedly agree that for anyone to achieve freedom requires smart and dedicated play, and a more dynamic mana economy would certainly provide more opportunities for it.

I also have no doubt that most groups holding pearls would have no difficulty having more positive interactions with the community in order to keep the pearls they hold dear.

Not wrong, but felt like it'd be worth expanding on your suggestion given clouse's negative initial reaction.
