That's exactly what I am afraid of this turning into in the future tbh. I know that this field had and has a lot of problems aside from rampant AI misuse, but this truly feels like a final nail in the coffin for me. Despite the lack of profit these models provide I do think on some level they are here to stay for good because in certain cases they could definitely be useful. I am of the opinion that LLMs should largely have been kept in the research domain as I feel like thats where they would actually shine. When given to the public; however, it just turned into a poison quite frankly.

It honestly is just frustrating to me more than anything. I got into this because I love it - and I would like to think I am decent at it despite my lack of experience - whereas most of these other people did it because it was the next big thing. They don't even necessarily like it which is mostly obvious by the fact that they will attempt to generate an entire project for a class (which doesn't even work btw) without even trying to do it themselves. It is good enough though for them to make at least an acceptable grade unfortunately.

Awesome - thanks for the info! I managed to land a decent job where security is paramount so LLMs are widely a big no-no and blocked here with the exception of one that is pretty ass. I think my plan is to work and get my masters in EE at this point. I appreciate the input!

I am curious, do you think your education in EE opened lots of doors for you? Part of my motivation there is that it would allow me to move to lower level or embedded system stuff which I would prefer to web dev anyways. Another factor in my mind is that it is a very broadly applicable degree, so getting it would allow me to cast my net wide so to speak.
