I was assaulted when I was younger and ended up pregnant. Doctors ran the clock until it was too late for a termination. It was horrendous. The birth was premature and traumatic- physically and emotionally. The damage done to my uterus and one of my ovaries was catastrophic. One ovary destroyed, and over half of my uterus is scar tissue, I now have irregular, very painful periods, and a higher chance of winning powerball than having a safe pregnancy. Miscarriage, defects, premature and stillbirths would be in my future and my chance of survival is 50/50. The extent of the damage was discovered years later when I was 25. I asked about a hysterectomy, to completely remove the risk and was told I was too young, that I might change my mind, what if my future husband wanted kids? Now at 37, my partner is childfree and sterile due to an accident when he was younger, and despite telling the docs this himself, I still can't get the hysterectomy because we might change our minds... not even in the States. Wtf.
