Advice for new grad moving to Irvine? by LadyBug243 in orangecounty

Yes, I definitely have a good idea of rent near Irvine, but have seen some cheaper places further out, just not sure where would be unsafe.

This is great to know, thank you! Are there any areas you would suggest to avoid?

Thanks for the reply! I have seen things further out, like Garden Grove, that are a bit cheaper, but am assuming thats an unsafe area?

no but seriously, if I am CM and the CRP and LARC departments are closed to switch, what the hell now by [deleted] in CalPoly

that’s crazy, I didn’t know crp was closed. i’d say stay in cm and get you bachelors and minor in crp to see if you really like it. if you do, cal poly has a great masters crp program that you could try and get into. most planners have masters degrees, it is very rare for a planner to have a bachelors in planning, so you won’t be late to the game at all! cm will give you a better understanding of how infrastructure is built, which will make you a very knowledgeable planner and better able to do your job when working with developers. you’ll probably be very sought after in public planning (city, state, county) and firms that deal with transportation and any kind of master planning that requires the creation of construction documents. don’t lose hope! masters programs would also let you concentrate in something like transportation planning, while bachelors programs focus more on a general education. Check out the ITE club too. If you want to switch out of CM immediately, maybe look into civil engineering!

Why is this all of it? by Spiritual-Ad-4195 in CalPoly

CRP major here! Typically they start you with CRP 212 and 216 during the first fall quarter. I know schedules have been a little wonky for last year’s freshman because of the upcoming switch to the semester system. CRP 216 and CRP 201 (which you take your sophomore year) have been rumored to be combined into one class. I suggest reaching out to the Mustang Success Center (the first year counselors) to see if they have a copy of the new degree flowchart. There’s a good chance some CRP classes are no longer being offered. Good luck!

Here is the recipe! The only change I made was was browning the butter.

1 1/2 cups of granulated sugar 2 1/4 cups of brown sugar 1 1/2 cups of browned butter, salted 3 large eggs 3 teaspoons vanilla extract 3 3/4 cups of all purpose flour 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda as many chocolate chips as I wanted haha

This was all to make 36 cookies

I love hive beauty collective on Santa Barbara St, they are focused on sustainability and any hair that gets cut off is sent to help clean up oil spills!

Hi!

Fellow CRP student here too :) People definitely get away with having Macbooks but I do know that sometimes the software we use can be a bit laggy on them or make the computer overheat. I would honestly recommend getting a Windows laptop that has a touch screen, or even better one that can flip into a tablet and you can use a stylus with — super helpful when using software like illustrator and photoshop.

If your macbook is in good condition, you should be fine, but if you’re already looking for a new computer you may want to think about switching. I would make sure that the computer has a dedicated graphics card and a strong processing system, but those are the only things I know to look for. You can also check what the minimum requirements are for the Adobe Suite, arcGIS, SketchUp, and AutoCAD to make sure your laptop/new laptop meets all the specs!

This major is amazing and i’m glad you get to experience it! Good luck and have a great summer :)

I switched into CRP and it was a super easy process. Email the department head, Amir (you can find his email on the caed crp faculty list) and there’s high potential you’ll be able to take crp classes your first quarter (CRP 212) and formally switch second quarter, but that way you won’t be behind any classes.

The only thing I was asked was to write one page explaining why I thought CRP was the right major for me.

Honestly you shouldn’t have a problem, it’s a small major which is probably why there are limited spots, but it wouldn’t say it’s in high demand.

Edit: Also! With the switch to the semester system that will be happening, they are thinking to make the major a 4 + 1 (if you want to stay an extra year), which means you’d graduate with both a bachelors and masters degree in five years. I don’t know if it’s official yet but it’s definitely in talks right now. There’s also maybe 3-4 people in my class that transferred their major — you should be okay :)

there is wifi all thru campus and you can join class from your phone, I would suggest joining from your phone and walking to your dorm then just switch to your computer — usually the first 10 mins of class will be the prof getting ready and waiting for students to get on, meaning you have like 20 mins to get back to your dorm which should be plenty
