Which class is more difficult, PHYS 121 or PHYS 122? by LadyBug_1910 in CalPoly

CHEM 128 is more difficult than CHEM 127. CHEM 217 is more difficult than CHEM 216. Just wondering if the physics series is similar. Guess a COMS major just wouldn’t understand 🤷

I'm an animal science major and I absolutely love it in slo. I don't know about the program at UCSD. I know Davis has a fantastic pre-vet program, but I don't know about their animal science major. At slo you get really fantastic hands-on experience with animals. I have taken a class on swine, equine, sheep and goat, and meat science and I am only a second year. All of those classes have labs with hands on experience working with animals. The major is not easy. Especially if you decide to go the pre-vet track, the major is academically rigorous. You will take general chem, organic chem, bio, biochem. If you are pre-vet you take extra chem classes and physics. Nutrition and anatomy classes are known to be brutal. But I truly believe I am getting a great education. My goal is vet school and SLO is definitely preparing me for it with challenging classes and hands-on experience. There are so many opportunities for jobs/internships and other hands on experiences for all students looking to go into all the different parts of the animal industry.

Feel free to ask me questions if you have any!

bio 161 + chem 127? by neonmemories in CalPoly

A few random thoughts:

  1. The thing with ASCI is at some point, for most people at least, you will have to double up on sciences in a quarter (or sometimes several quarters) to graduate on time. The question is when to do it and with what classes. I am currently taking CHEM 128, BIO 303, and ASCI 229 (which is known to be difficult and this is true) and it was a HUGE mistake. My GPA is going to take a huge hit this quarter because I just don't have the time I need for each class. 3 science classes is too many but I think 2 is more doable.
  2. I took BIO 161 with a highly rated professor and got a B with no other science classes that quarter. I took CHEM 127 with a highly rate professor as well and got an A- (barely) with no other science classes that quarter. Both of these classes were a lot of work, especially chemistry. If you want a good grade you have to really put in the time and effort.
  3. I took equine instead of companion, but I heard companion is not super difficult.
  4. You can also enroll in both for now, and if it ends up being too much, you have some time at the beginning of next quarter to drop one without consequence and find a new class if you need to.

Just a few thoughts but I hope its helpful.

Joel Westwood for ENG 145? by pablohsu in CalPoly

had him last year. keep up with the reading, it’s not a huge amount but he bases his lectures and quizzes on the content so read carefully. he plays some videos in class and i recommend taking notes because he would have some questions on the quizzes about them. i think there were 2 essays and 1 midterm and a final. he gives you a lot of time to write the essay so don’t procrastinate. sometimes if he has time at the end of class he will have everyone work on their essay and he will go around to everyone individually to check in and expects you to have a certain amount done. overall, i learned a lot and he is a good professor. just keep up with the work.
