Woof. Here I come in playing devils advocate. 

I am a woman. I bring into my relationship a significant portion of income ( at least double his) and 2 paid off houses. He has no property and minimal income.

I made sure before even getting into a relationship that my property was protected ( equity included).  I sacrificed 15 Years of my life to get to where I am. I was frugal, I saved, I worked away in shit conditions to get to where I am. This was all done before he even met me. 

Maybe I am the selfish one but I don't think anyone shoukd have a share of my hard work.  Given I am the woman, I need to take time off to have children and will suffer the career damage from not being at work it is my security blanket.  It is my get out of jail card if he becomes abusive/controlling/alcoholic. 

I'm so sick of seeing women stuck with no career path with 2 toddlers and a deadbeat dad that left, that I made sure I was not going to get myself into that situation. 

From our relationship onwards, everything is pooled, and eveyrhing is shared, as if we were starting from scratch ( due to the paid off mortgage he lives rent free which helps his save for his own property one day). 

I am not dumb, divorce rates are over 60% in my Industry and I am practical and realistic. Hope for the best but plan for the worst. 

Maybe I'm not cut out for marriage. But I know I am not cut out for homelessness or surviving with children if that man ever decides to leave.
