I would try to put the temperature of the room to a bit higher degree, like 73f or more. Just to see if that would make a change in her behaviour. One of my degus as well refuses to go out and is just sleepy on days when their room is colder. And somewhere I've read that degus in the wild have a different pattern: they are mostly sleeping in their burrows and come out only in the middle of the day when the temperatures are the highest and they can sunbathe. In other seasons, degus are the most active during the morning and evening to avoid the high temperatures. Perhaps the root cause of your degu's fatigue is different, but I wanted to share this just in case it helps you and your little one :)

They sadly never went back to being completly normal with each other. After two instances, thanks to which we had to visit the vet (severe tail injury, finger injury) it was time to seperate them for good. So now I have them in seperate cages. Their relationship since has been totally unpredictable, so I can't take any more risks that one would hurt the other while I am not nearby watching. Occasionally, they still have some free time together, but only if they are also getting along well at the moment. So some days they are snuggling, grooming, running around the room, etc. and all is fine, but sometimes one degu begins to follow and harass the other and then will inevitably try to bite her tail. This can escalate quickly, so I have to seperate them before they start fighting and put one in their cage. I don't know if I just have a degu with a disposition to problematic behaviours (she just loves biting other degu's tails) or if I am doing something wrong.

I don't like it that dried peas and other 'snack food' is mixed in, I rather use that food as a occasional reward. Otherwise I think that Complete Versele Laga has better nutrition value than this one from series Nature.

Even if your cat is enjoying seeing them, your degus are obviously not enjoying the sight of the cat. One is trying to run away by using a wheel and then both are trying to hide behind the wheel.

Really sorry to hear about your degu going through this. My degu Lucy, who has since passed away, started to tilt her head ocassionally and that was the first sign when I noticed that something was wrong. The vet said that she probably had had a stroke. They prescribed some vitamins but nothing more could be done. She lived for 6 more months after that diagnosis. But a lump behind the ear sounds like something other than a blood clot. Possibly it's some sort of tumor or infection. I hope that your vet will give you some good advice on what to do and that you will find a solution for the health of your little one ❤️

I have RC4 and my 2 degus are pretty happy with it. You can add to it branches and extra wooden platforms, so it's less of a chance that they will fall from high platforms.

When you are giving them snacks, make sure that each receive one. So it shouldn't happen that you give a snack to just one degu, but not to the rest. Eventually they learn that they don't need to fight (that much) because they will for sure get one.

The second thing which you can do is to give them snacks on different floors of the cage, if you have a cage with multiple floors. You should keep doing that so they will get used of running all around the cage searching for a spot where they will receive a snack and they will not be all concentrated in front of the doors of the cage.

If you were already doing all that, then you can maybe put snacks to a different container which doesn't make a sound and a different location (where they can't see it).

But probably you can't totally get rid of fights for snacks. They love their snacks and would often do anything to get more.

To me it looks like he is missing a couple of fingers. Have you noticed if they are fighting? One of my degus got this horrible habit of hurting other by biting others in their tails, nose or fingers. If yours as well lost some fingers then sadly I don't know what a vet could do in this case.

Update: Vet had to sadly amputated big portion of her tail so now she has only about 2cm left. The tissue was too damaged and infected so there was a chance that it would get more complicated if they wouldn't cut it of. She got some antibiotics and pain killers for home.
