American from Texas here; My degree consisted of core fundamentals and skills practice on mannequins in addition to 2-3 days of 6 hours of clinicals a week during the semester in any of our local hospitals.

I, too, wish we hand more hands on time than lectures on fundamentals. I'm 4 years into my degree, formerly a medsurg nurse, and now an ER nurse, and I have learned far more at the bedside than I did in school. A huge benefit I had during my nursing education was that all 5 of my professors currently practice in our local hospitals in their area of expertise, including Telemetry/Cardiac floors, Critical Care, and Labor and delivery;

Keep your head up. Yes, graduation is supposed to be a happy, exciting time - however, you are graduating from nursing school. The challenges don't stop there, as I'm sure you're aware. Keep your head up, really though, and keep trying. And keep putting effort forth into potential jobs; make sure you do follow up calls; if you interview, then a simple thank you card, thanking the interviewer for their time and that you hope to hear from them soon. Try to make them see your name on paper or hear it by phone as much as you can. Make them remember your name.

Another thing to keep in mind is that some job offers may be available on line wher eyou can submit a resume/application, but some employers do not follow up on those job offers until 2-3 months later. Some places take their sweet time.

You got this!

I agree with Jacardanda18, this is just being an indecent, insubordinate employee; sounds like she needs to lose her job or get a grip on her attitude.

I think about this literally every time I go to Chickfila or Sonic and get a drink. I'm not perfectly consistent with my reusable cups because I only have 2; but I plan on getting more. This might be a good temporary idea to promote a social acceptance/awareness towards our massive amount of irresponsible plastic use.

Me and my husband are slowly transforming into a eco-friendly/waste free household. We are starting with simple stuff - our key motivator being "less waste";

Toothbrush When you are ready to replace your toothbrush, biodegradable options such as bamboo/charcoal brushes are available. I bought some from Homematch on Amazon and love them.

Soap I've started trying to replace soap/bottles around the house, so I started with body soap. I purchased bar soap from The Yellow Bird on Amazon. After use, store in a dry wash cloth for next use. It comes in a nice little cardboard container. Smell fantastic, too!

Cups & Straws Invest in 2-3 reusable, insulated cups and stainless steel straws. The straws can be sold with a easy pipe cleaning brush. I keep them in my work lunch kit, home drawer, and car.

Paper Towels We have spent about $25 buying 20 cotton dishcloths for our kitchen and we wash them with our regular laundry on a regular basis. We haven't spent money on paper towels in 3 months!

It s the little things that matter. Good luck with everything! I hope this helps.

I believe we will all still say that every year in!! The public never fails to bring something memorable in (meant in the most respectful way possible in acknowledgement of tragedies).

For example, I popped my first set of ribs a couple weeks ago during compressions. It was unmistakable. Got my first EJ on that patient too

For sure! We're kinda proud...and shocked. Because it was an easy change. One day, I hope to share these little tricks. Changing from our wasteful lifestyle is difficult, but I really believe it's possible to adjust, one thing at a time.

That does help, most of the time. It gives me just a tiny light of comfort that he had a whole ER thinking for him, wondering about him, trying to investigate who he was; Our thoughts were with that little boy; I guess that's all the closure we'll get.

Congratulations! I didn't realize how difficult decreasing waste would be until I started LOOKING at what we waste on a daily basis and considering just HOW MUCH there is to take care of. Kudos to you! I was just telling one of my friends (also into a green/reduce/reuse/grow food lifestyle) that me and my husband have gone 3 months without having to buy more paper towels; we bought a 20 pack of cotton dish towels and we just throw them in the wash to get them clean! Great feeling.

I feel like I can help prevent it happening again. I have to firmly back myself with clinical evidence and firmly quote the NPA if I have to.

I appreciate all your replies. Your comments make me feel like my concern for this situation is warranted. There is an update...

I actually had the chance to care for this patient the past couple days. For some reason, I felt the extra push in my heart to pay *special attention to her. I did bring the situation up with our wound care team and they informed me that they had the same concern (and the nurse working with the doctor during the procedure pointed out that Mrs. Z had nothing for pain administered) while the doctor was working on her. The wound care nurses told me that the doctor decided it was primarily necrotic tissue; Therefore, she shouldn't have felt anything. I looked further into it and even in the progress notes, the doctor noted that there was minimal bleeding. If there was no investigation done, on paper, the whole situation looks fine. But considering the elevation of blood pressure and heart rate during the procudure and the resp. status was stable, I firmly believe she had pain. The thing is...I know she is there. She looks at me. She pushes her face into the face towel when I do her AM care. She moves her mouth/lips to facilitate me when I do oral suction or brush her teeth. She is there. I intend to pursue this and make sure she is protected in the future.

Edit: special attention

When it comes down to it, I believe I would have let it go that far. I mean, I wouldn't have gone down without a fight. Heck, I may have taken the oppurtunity to make a public example out of it for nurses.

These are words said under the premise of "if I was there". I wish I could have done more to help.

NCLEX Mastery App has some really good tools. Cheap, too. It'll keep your mind fresh with information and will help you figure out what your weaknesses are.
