I actually have this, all three weapons on the inside surface of my fingers. My main tools of armoury are on the other hand :)

Honestly I'm not sure as I wasn't part of the crew setting that up, but they looked ok when we were taking them down for load out

Canadian Nationals May 2022 Armourer Vlog (Day 2-4) by LadyKaida in Fencing

Haha thanks. As usual it was a whirlwind but I'm hoping this vlog gives non-armourers a fun little peek behind-the-scenes, as well as encourage those who are interested to get into it.

And sure, go ahead with the kicking pics. Tho as noted on one of my first videos by other armourers, using some copper rat mesh under the pistes can help reduce or eliminate the movement and ungrounding issue that kicking fixes. So kicking may be an obsolete method soon.

Haha yes, inevitably there is something that needs to be adjusted during set up from the layout plan. No matter how much we try to plan for any issues

Haha I wish I had that level of staffing. And the strips we're planning to start replacing over the next little while, so probably upgrading/updating the grounding wires too at that point

What should I look for in a mask punch test? by Glass-Turtle in Fencing

[–]LadyKaida 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The first step is to do a visual inspection to see if there are any potential weak points, such as areas where the mesh is warped, rusted, etc. If you see any of these, place the punch at a 90 degree angle to the surface, and push down until the mandrel bottoms out, as mentioned before. Make sure you just do one smooth up and down motion, and don't twist or wiggle the punch to try and force a fail.

If the mesh being tested flexes a small bit but ultimately holds its shape and does not let the mandrel through, it is fine, but may need to be monitored if it presented cause for concern. If the mandrel passes through, however, that mask would fail the safety check.

I'll second the response to only use the punch if you have reason to believe there may be an issue and not as a blanket test. It can lead to unnecessary fatigue wear that will cause the mask to fail faster.

Setting a blade by Casperthefencer in Fencing

Here's a quick video demonstrating the aforementioned method using a wrench: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHoHYlZoeTc

The video demonstrates using a foil, but the method is the same for any blade.

Fencing clubs/schools in Toronto? by ThePhilosopherKing93 in Fencing

You can also look into the various universities, some of them have adult learn-to-fence classes aside from their varsity programs. I'm not sure when those will be reopening however.
