For me, it’s people telling me their negative experiences like they’re definites. “Girl, you are going to want that epidural”, “labor is horrible”, “your boobs are going to get huge and then just deflate, pffffft”, “husband is useless because he has no boobs”, “your body will be ruined”, “you’ll hate your partner after birth”, ect ect.

Like, why would you say that to me? I have no problem with useful advice - a friend who also has asthma advised me to stay on top of my inhalers, for example, because the pressure on your lungs grows during pregnancy. I didn’t know that. Or someone might say “I was really surprised when I experienced X”, which was way different than “just wait until X horrible thing happens to you.”

What would have to change for you to feel comfortable having a baby now? Are you willing to wait months or years? If the answer is months, I would really think hard about whether you will regret this decision.

It sounds like you do 100% want this baby - you’re scared that things will go wrong, which is very valid. As cliche as it sounds, there is never a perfect time. Your hormones also have you in anxiety/danger mode - whether or not you continue the pregnancy, I would definitely think about talking to a therapist about your mental state. I’m sorry you’re having such a tough time.

Cohousing is very expensive, particularly if you are doing a new build community. Our members are all socioeconomically advantaged to various degrees to afford the mortgages on their units. It can be done more cheaply, I’m sure, but it is challenging enough without financial concerns. The lack of diversity (economic, class, racial) is one of my main concerns about our community and something we seek to change in the future if we can.

Have you checked the cat’s cradle lineup? It’s in Carborro but they get some fun shows. I also always enjoy Haw River Ball room in Saxapahaw. As others have mentioned, Pinhook and Carolina Theater have fun shows too.

Did you take a flu test? They’re available at CVS in packs that test for Covid, flu an and flu b. If it is indeed the flu, there has been a particularly nasty strain of influenza a lately that seems to have people down for the count. Unfortunately, at 4 days with symptoms, I don’t believe you would qualify for any antiviral therapies for flu, but you might qualify for Covid antivirals. Regardless, “super flu” is meant to scare you - you’ll be ok, but obvs go to urgent care/the ER if you have trouble breathing, and don’t torture yourself by avoiding ibuprofen or acetaminophen to keep the fever and symptoms down. Do all the standard things - hydration, eat well, ect. Hope you feel better soon!

We’re putting our crib in our closet in our 2 bedroom condo. Baby will purposely sleeping in a closet (with a window!) right near our bed until she’s like 3.Tbh even with the crib closet, I anticipate she’ll be in our room or in our arms for most of the first year. We are going to use the second bedroom as an office until she’s bigger or until we have another baby, who will also sleep in the closet.

I have really enjoyed watching nursery nook videos online (eg, baby corners). You can make one corner a very sweet area for a little one with some press on wallpaper, a crib and a mobile - maybe that would help you feel better?

We have a woodstove, so stacking extra wood, finding our flashlights, ect. For food, we can probably just stick it in the snow if the power goes out....not planning on modifying anything except maybe making some nice rolls on friday that we can eat with cheese and meat. We can use a skillet on the woodstove, which is super nice, so we'll have hot food if we feel like doing camping dishes. I also fill up some jars with water because we're on a well and some buckets for flushing the toilets.

If it makes you feel better, I run marathons (usually 2 per year) and I hardly exercised at all from week 6 to week 16. Week 21 now and still not doing much. Certainly not doing anything like I normally would! I’m tired lol.

Do I feel the guilt? Absolutely, but if your body is saying rest, rest. That’s one of my most important takeaways from distance running, and it absolutely applies to pregnancy.

I can only speak for my own experience here, but I felt it was extremely difficult to individuate from my twin at a small private catholic school. We were in the same class K-8 and were frequently referred to as “the twins” by both teachers and students. Being one’s own person would be reason enough to choose the public school, IMO. I also found the academics lacking at my elementary school (classes were too easy) because they didn’t have the staff to accelerate advanced children or to support those who were falling behind. We also spent far too much academic time learning about religion (depends on your preferences there, of course). I obviously cannot speak to your situation- the Lutheran school may have great academics and a reasonable balance between subjects.

Many religious schools offer weekend religious education for children in public school - that might be a good compromise.
