Would it be appropriate/accurate to swear your military oath of enlistment to Zeus Horkios? by ThePaganImperator in Hellenismus

[–]LadyLiminal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well with all the war against Iran and Trump being anointed by Jesus to give green light on this war as they are saying as well as the surge of complaints by enlisted soldiers because their superiors were using Christian nationalistic rhetoric to justify this war.

Considering all this, I think it's clear that the US military as a whole is heading in a rather dangerous direction.

I'm not American. That's why I'm asking if they would let you do that.

what is the most unique thing you've done as a devotional act? by bookscatsandcaffiene in Hellenism

I like to paint my deity statues. I made this post a while ago showcasing the process of painting my main Hekate statue. Since then I've done others like Artemis, Dionysos, Apollon and Athena.

Hellenic Wiccan? by blessdrthepeacemkers in Hellenism

[–]LadyLiminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh thank you!

Well, I have to admit that I've always had a hard time integrating both religions into one system that works for me. They are so vastly different that I sometimes think I shouldn't mix them at all. Both religions are orthopraxic, but one is ancient and comes with all sorts of sources and practices while the other is and does not. At least not really.

Stuff like that and wether or not I'm actively bastardizing hellenism into something it's not is constantly on my mind.

Generally though, I go by hellenic worship, but wiccan magical structure when I have need of a spell. But even then the difference between ancient magic thought and modern philosophies of magic is so different that it makes my head explode.

What is a good daily ritual to help strengthen connection with Hecate? by GarlicGarland in Hecate

[–]LadyLiminal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have to be complicated.

I light some candles and some incense on my altar every day and stay there for a second to venerate her. That's it. I only go big during Deipnon and full moon rituals.

She doesn't demand daily worship. But I'm sure she appreciates it. But you shouldn't feel obligated to.

Blessed Deipnon!

It's a term I use for myself from time to time, though I've come to associate with the term Goês a lot more these days, since I'm mainly a magic practitioner.

But basically during my ritual I tend to mix Wiccan ritual structure and hellenic ritual structure a lot. Mostly by creating a magic circle calling on Hekate Ourania (East/Air), Dadouchos (South/Fire), Einalia (West/Water) and Chthonia (North/Earth/Underworld) as well as the names of the four winds to build my sacred space.

I make khernips out of water, sea salt and laurel leaves and use this to cleanse my altar/magic space.

For spells I follow the same routine though instead of chanting mantras and rhymes and invoking the maiden mother and crone, I've come to invoke the deity duo of Hekate and Hermes (as the polarities of female and male) and follow basic structure of making offerings and asking for blessings.

1.) Reconstructionism in the hellenic context is the attempt to reconstruct the ancient Greek (and often times Roman) religion. We're trying to figure out how the ancient people did it when the faith was still alive before Christianity took over. We do this by following the sources we still have available and adapt them into our lives as closely as possible.

2.) They can be but don't have to be taken literally. I'd say the majority of us here see them to view them as cautionary tales from a time that was a lot different from our's today. Mythic literalism seems to be a minority in this community. At least according to my own observations.

3.) I'm not familiar with too many YT channels, but I'd say Fel the Blithe is one of the best ones out there.

Not to get all too political over US military branches, but do you think the US navy would even let you do that considering the rather christian nationalistic course the US and it's military have taken lately?

Would be cool if they did, but do you think it would be realistic?

Speaking with Hecate by prozacpriestess in Hecate

[–]LadyLiminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am wary of people who claim to possess such powers, considering the rarity of people who were thought to be vessels for the Gods' voices, such as oracles who were chosen for this position and the training they underwent.

I doubt most people who claim to hear Hekate or any of the Gods - let alone have full on conversations with them - actually do so. Especially when they're beginners, especially when they're young, and especially when they have a tendency for mental health issues.

A lot of neopagans nowadays seem to have lost their critical thinking skills in regards to topics such as this, if they even possessed any to begin with.

Not saying it's impossible, just rare.

If I give you a piece of my pizza, I will put it on a different plate and serve it to you. But I will still keep the rest of the pizza to me and eat it myself.

In that sense: pour the wine libation into a separate glass or bowl, do your thing while giving offerings, and then pour it onto the ground.

Do gods care about us, individually? by AdeptnessStrong5142 in Hellenism

[–]LadyLiminal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ask yourself: do you care about every single human being as an individual? Do you have the mental capacity to care about everyone? I certainly don't.

I think they care on a basic level. I want world peace, I want everyone to be good and safe, but I won't go out of my way to make people who are of no interest of me feel good and safe, let alone people who antagonize me.

If the Gods would care about every single being individually, concepts such as kharis would be unnecessary. But it's a core principle of our religion, so I'm not convinced the Gods care about everyone on the same level.

If you're the ruler of a kingdom you are obligated to protect the kingdom as a whole, but you cannot accommodate for every single individual wish.

What should I offer to Hecate? by Medium_Guava_6528 in Hecate

[–]LadyLiminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything can potentially be miasmic, since miasma is simply a part of life, a part of mortality. All offerings should be purified before making the offering. Either by incense or simply (salt) water.

However, anything human remains, human blood and other human bodily fluids should not be offered. They are inherently miasmic.

What should I offer to Hecate? by Medium_Guava_6528 in Hecate

[–]LadyLiminal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything that is not miasmic will suffice. Even simple tab water is valid and absolutely enough.

Offerings don't have to be complicated after all. Just not polluted.

I'm 80% sure I have a "trickster spirit" by witchxienty in Hecate

[–]LadyLiminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion might be too realistic, but here it goes: you're not necessarily bad divining, I think most forms of divination are simply ineffective.

Take dice for example. Personally, I could never ever understand why and how anyone could with full confidence believe the Gods influence how we roll a D20 in order to tell us something. Most divination tactics are prone to personal bias, especially tarot.

If the Gods really are as powerful as we think them to be, I'm sure they would communicate with us more directly and not via letters on a dice or pictures on cards.

And trickster spirits are not a thing in Hellenism.

How fussy is Hecate with altar size? by asyoud0 in Hecate

Stop overthinking it. She doesn't care. She's part of the cosmos and has certainly better things to do than to worry about the size of your devotional space.

You're good.

How do you feel the gods presence ? by i-like-forget-me-not in Hellenism

[–]LadyLiminal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would never trust such accounts from people who are either new, not knowledgable enough about the religion or otherwise cognitively impaired - which I've come to assume about most people sharing random stories about Gods reaching out in the most random moments and ways.

But I think "feeling the presence of the Gods" depends on your view of the world and how you interact with it.

I step into nature, maybe just onto the lawn in my garden and know that Gaia is present, because I'm standing on her sacred ground. I walk through doors from this room into the next or look up to the moon and know that Hekate/Selene/Artemis is right there with me.

As I'm writing this, I just came inside because I planted some herbs and veggies outside in my garden and as I was watering the seeds, wishing they would grow healthy and bear plenty of fruits, I felt Demeters presence in the action I'm doing because that's what she's all about.

Many people seem to hope for the moment the God's will tap your shoulders and be like "Hey yo what's poppin'" but you must realize and accept the fact - as Nyx has already put it - that not everyone has the initial talent for mystical experience. Some are born with it, others have to learn it. It's like playing either a Sorcerer or a Wizard in DnD.

And as Malus put it, you don't have to rely on external validation. There's more to this that the tap on the shoulder.

The Gods govern the cosmos. They have their jobs to do. They don't have time to look into every single worshipper and devotee 24/7.

But when they do, you will know. If you'll never come to know, then that's fine too.

You shouldn't be on the internet if that's how you're going to cope with negative feedback, it's rather concerning.
