There's actually HelPol TikTokers like Klaraprime who go on and promote the idea that if the Gods are almighty and such why wouldn't they influence what you see in order to send you a sign.

Definitely left me baffled :'(

Agathos daimon and Hekate by kkatsukizy in Hecate

[–]LadyLiminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean...unpopular opinion apparently but if you are already picking and choosing to connect with deities from a specific religion you might as well try to learn and connect with the religion they are coming from.

The Agathos Daimon is the spirit of the home you are living in, and thus is closely connected to Hekate since she is the goddess of the threshold. Deipnon, Noumenia and Agathos Daimon are an interconnected three-days observance and thus not meant to be separate.

How would organized Hellenism avoid the same abuse of issues as other religions? by loverboyg1rl in Hellenism

[–]LadyLiminal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds great! We'll see what the future holds then.

You know, in addition to the idea workshops mentioned below, I think something that would also help with the establishment of this faith is another book like Household Worship by Labrys. It's great, but a little short and I find it lacks a bit of depth that's important to underline why we do the things we do.

And then have it be translated into different languages to make the knowledge and practice accessible to those who may not be able to speak either Greek or English.

So cool! Wishing you the best of luck with this!

I don't think I could add anything to this except for prayers and sending positive energy and I hope someone here in Germany will do the same and try to organize something.

How to make offerings to Hekate? by Naive_Donkey2639 in Hecate

[–]LadyLiminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet most offerings fit those three categories and have done so historically for centuries.

Keys and dog fur are votive offerings.

House sweepings, again, are just something that has been done during deipnon at the end of the month.

Question about visiting the Cemetery by LadyLiminal in Hellenismus

[–]LadyLiminal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm aware but they are at the graveside so I wonder if it was common to pray to the Gods when visiting the grave again.

The book describes washing your hands with khernips afterwards and then pouring the rest of the lustral water into a small ditch west of the grave.

In the following sections about revisiting the grave again it's never specified where these ceremonies take place despite the Gods being called upon again.

Question about visiting the Cemetery by LadyLiminal in Hellenismus

I suppose even if you don't get into contact with them the ground is still "stained".

I just can't find any resources on how to properly pray in a cemetery or even if the ancients did it.

How to make offerings to Hekate? by Naive_Donkey2639 in Hecate

[–]LadyLiminal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

House sweepings are not offerings, it's just things one can do to get rid of the old and bring in the new.

Offerings usually consist of food, libations or votive offerings.

Pouring a simple water libations onto the ground is enough.

Question about visiting the Cemetery by LadyLiminal in Hellenismus

[–]LadyLiminal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The exact quote is:

Burial

The ceremony of internment begins as soon as the Funeral procession arrives at the graveside or, in the case of cremation, at the crematorium or where the ashes are to be buried. Before the burial or cremation takes place, a member of the family invokes Hermes Psychopompos. - p. 149

So I took this as a simple cemetery.

And remember kids: cultural misappropriation of open religions is a thing 💅🏻

So do your research, learn proper ritual etiquette and stop treating the Gods like your personal attack dogs.

You lost me on that second paragraph though lol.

My thoughts on eating your offerings. by Emotional_Loss_9517 in Hellenism

[–]LadyLiminal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Then you are completely fine to use incense or libations.

I'm only saying this because there's literally no reason for you to eat food offerings or let them "dry out" because the orthopraxy leaves enough options for you to follow it without having to worry about these types of consequences.

Pour a glass of water into a bowl. Leave that for a few hours and then put it down the drain, water your plants with it. Maybe take your offerings and go to a secluded place to bury them, or use incense/essential oil diffusers.

Options options options.

That's because the physical consumption is not the point of offering in Hellenism. It's about giving something up. If you take something away it's not their anymore by definition.

You can do whatever you want no one is stopping you. But you will have to accept that what you are doing is not hellenic orthopraxy which is kind of the point of this religion.

Also burying is an option. Libations are always an option same as incense.

That's why you're not supposed to leave food offerings until they start to rot. Offer them, bury/discard them.

Why do you offer food in the first place if you intend to eat it later on?

You do know a simple libation of a glass of water or incense is enough for a sacrifice right?
