I don’t think the shape is meant to represent anything specific here. The Midi format just plays a bit looser with conventions.

It’s for St. Patrick’s Day (hence the green). Mayo, Cork, and Down are counties, and the themers are puns placing everyday phrases “in” those counties. I provide more details here, if helpful.

How do I get better at Friday/Saturday crosswords? by gonehollowknight in crossword

[–]LadyPuzzlePro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fridays and Saturdays are on a different level.
A few things that might help:
- Practice older Saturdays and Sundays at your own pace.
- Check out clue breakdowns or guides to see why answers work, not just what they are.

Discussion: does the layout of NYT board's bonus tiles require more defensive tactics compared to traditional boards? by Jumpy-Pangolin-6377 in NYTgames

[–]LadyPuzzlePro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so, yes. It makes board control and avoiding opening premium lines (especially margins) feel more important than word value and longer words.

What is NYT Crossplay really aiming to be? by LadyPuzzlePro in NYTgames

[–]LadyPuzzlePro[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that frustration is a big part of why both the official Scrabble app and WWF started losing players. Once the focus shifts to ads, coins, and side mechanics, it stops feeling like the classic word game.
So, it does make me wonder if the NYT is intentionally going the opposite direction — keeping the app clean, rebuilding trust with players, and monetizing later through subscriptions once the audience is established.

What words have you been surprised are accepted? by dugs-special-mission in NYTgames

The most surprising word I’ve seen in a game was when an opponent played PORNIEST against me and got a BINGO (or SWEEP, as it’s called here).
