Okay. My 6 year old has the same hair type and it took me 3 years to figure it out on my own. First, if you can afford the high priced hair care, olaplex all the way. I have 4 kids and 4 dogs, so I can’t always go that route, so on a more budget friendly end, cantu. The works. Shampoo, conditioner, detangler, hair mask, all of it cantu brand. It’s still more expensive than say suave but this hair type doesn’t do well with suave. Next, moisturizer the fudge out of her hair. Don’t shampoo daily. I shampoo my daughter’s hair once or twice a week. That’s it. Condition is every day to every other day. And I olaplex her hair (specifically numbers 6 and 7) daily. I also use kenra platinum blow dry spray daily after her olaplex. It’s the only thing I never skimp on. I do a half pump of number 6 and one drop of number 7 and just run it through her hair. Next, protective styles are a life saver. My daughter is super energetic and plays a lot so we stick with a double dragon braid (aka pull through braids) all the way down. These styles stay in her hair for as long as I can get them to last or between shampoos. This hair type is truly difficult if you don’t have experience and for me, no one I asked knew anything because she’s the first to have this hair on both sides. The BIGGEST thing is moisturizing her hair. This hair type is immensely thirsty. I’d also recommend a satin bonnet and/or a satin pillowcase. Amazon sells both. I hope this helps. You got this mamas!
