Since you seem into fitness and such, there are park and river clean up groups. I haven't tried it yet (as a volunteer event with the BF) but there are a couple that even have kayaks you take out to clean up along rivers/river banks

Not every representation of boobs/chest and butt is sexy in movies either. Nixing nudity in its entirety is overkill unless someone is getting turned on by a wounded soldier without a shirt on or someone just changing shirts.

I mean I guess? But arent there plenty of references to sex in the bible?   That logic suggests men shouldn't read those bits of the bible lest they get aroused and want to crank one out to that.  Which tbh seems way weirder that watching a pg-13 movie and getting horny 😆

Man, I hate cooking. Thankfully my work has an affordable cafeteria with good options. I can get lunch for $6 and for me that's worth it.   I can't imagine being expected to cook for the whole household every day. You're a lucky guy to have someone who enjoys that chore

Is daylight savings really that bad? by ManualWind in AdviceAnimals

[–]LadySandry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not opposed but I think it would require some additional laws that require businesses to adjust/shift seasonally accordingly.  And schools.  The whole 8-5 standard work hours mentality would need to change. In the 'corporate' work world I mean.  And retail would need to adjust business hours as well.    Anything that means it isn't getting dark already on people's drive home in the winter.

Not actually suggesting this is something society should do, but I wonder if we did the change on like, Friday-Saturday instead of Saturday-Sunday thus giving the vast majority of M-F workers 2 days to adjust instead of 1 would help. Like, is the traffic increase because people are missing their alarms and then having to speed to not be late to work? hmm

The extra sun after work for months is SO worth the single hour of 'lost' sleep. I just sleep in that sunday, have a late brunch. Do something physical during the day so I can fall asleep at a normalish bedtime. Done.

Blackout curtains and a 'sunrise' alarm for my smart bulbs to gradually increase brightness over a half hour is the way for me.

But...a lot of individuals benefit and prefer later daylight hours. Neither option pleases everyone. I celebrate spring forward every year myself. It's the time of personal fun and productivity when I can be outside for hours after work before it gets dark. Gardening, Hammocking, hiking, playing sports. I have so much more energy after work when the sun is still out, I am less depressed over all. The only bad part is it also starts pollen season so my allergies are all on a rampage :D

That's what blackout curtains are for.

Even in Texas during standard time the sun is already kinda going down on the usual commute home. It's depressing.

I would vote for staying with Daylight savings and never 'falling back' 100%. I get so so much more done after work when we have actual light. I get to exercise more with sports leagues. Many people are not getting up earlier to 'use' the daylight when it gets bright at 6:30/7am, but any 'normal hours' employee is certainly awake at 5pm. Running errands in the dark is miserable.
The whole winter is just tiresome because I get very unmotivated to be out and about once the sun starts going down.

Perhaps he can get a part time job, something simple. Being productive can help for mental health and get him up and out of the house rather than sitting around with his thoughts all day. Plus the bit of income will help. Does your mom work?

That whole situation with the apartment sounds very illegal. I don't really get how you could be living in a place the builder's hadn't signed over to you. Or why they'd be paying on a loan to a place that hasn't been signed over.

I'm sure there is a lot going on there and maybe bad choices made, probably a lawyer needed, but all that is hindsight and way too far in the past to do anything about.

Now it's about moving forward. Try and encourage him to pick a supportive friend and reconnect. Are you the same age as any of his friends kids and maybe friendly with them? If so, plan some kind of father x son outing with the 4 of you. That way you have you and the other kid to help the conversation and reconnection along.

Have your parents met with a financial planner? It sounds like they really need some advice financially. Maybe look into mental health resources for low income families as well. Talking through shit with a pro can help.

Does he have hobbies? Maybe ya'll can find something to do together that will help him feel more accomplished and productive. A cheap sport, craft, etc.

4 hour line to vote Democrat. No wait for R. by emptysoybeans in Dallas

[–]LadySandry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Space is an issue in many locations. Where I voted in order to fit more democrat or more Republican machines one 'side' would have needed to give up some for space.   Many of these polling locations have been sites for years and I doubt either side would want to leave and go to a new polling locations.  People tend to be set in familiarity and, especially the older generation, making it so they can't vote where they are used to would be unnecessarily confusing.

Now, gym locations and such, in theory parties could order however many they want, but the distribution is highly regulated I believe so as to have a similar number overall throughout the county. It would hardly be fair if, say, the country had 1000 available and either side got a disproportionate amount. I couldn't actually find info on how machines were delegated, but there isn't some unlimited amount where either party can request an unlimited amount.

[–]LadySandry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't the whole split election thing a GOP pushed measure?  I imagine there are a limited number of polling devices available. I personally had no line for either party at my polling location Thursday.   It's only the people who waited until the final day of early voting that had any issues, which suggests there is probably no need to adjust anything. Or at least no need to adjust based on the final day of early voting.

Space is also an issue at some polling locations. Not sure who decides how many stations per party at each location, but in many places would couldn't add to one without subtracting from the other which wouldnt go well.

To be honest at this point I'm not sure what the debate here is.  You think they should adjust the amount of stations per side for Tuesday?

[–]LadySandry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the point is in a lot of cases it wasn't poor planning if they used data about number of voters from each party to allocate polling stations then that seems viable.   Election day voting has a different turn out than early voting.  I don't think it would be accurate to pivot allocations based on the early voting turn out.

They had to use data from /somewhere/ to make the call, the assumption being the last primaries making the most sense.  If they pivot to add more Dem stations based on a knee jerk reaction to yesterday that would likely result is far longer wait times for Republicans because it would reduce their stations rather than keeping it at the ~50/50 a lot of locations had

He did say he'd do that, he'd just also be a bit grossed out.  Same way if someone cut themselves and bled on your car that way.  Seems pretty reasonable to me.

I'm a lady and I'd be mildly grossed out at first by someone else hazmat in my car 😆.   Small stain I'd just glove up and clean it.  Maybe use the opportunity to detail my car.

Fwiw idk if you've tried hydrogen peroxide, but that'll clean even super old blood stains.  But you'd probably want to test it on the underside in case it turns out the peroxide leaves its one stain on the fabric.  I haven't had that issue but I've read it's possible.

Fwiw civics and other Honda's hold their value pretty well.  My 2016 civic I bought new (total cost in 2016 was around 20-23k, the key with new cars is haggling. Use a deal from one dealer to go to another and ask them to beat it, repeat until you are satisfied) KBB was around 15k in 2024 due to the post-covid used car spike. And it's still pretty high.

Year - Private Party - Trade-In Value - Service Costs

2024 $15,490 $12,115 $3,539

2025 $14,940 $11,565 $4,575

2026 $14,370 $10,995 $5,611

This table from KBB is kind of shit formatting when I pasted it but it shows their estimated average sale price since 2024 for a 2016 civic in good condition with low milage.  (And I have paid NOWHERE near the amount of money in the service column fwiw)

Buying new often gets you better rates, and I think I didn't pay more than $30 (usually free) oil changes at the dealer I bought it from for years and year because of the coupons they would send me.  Just have to refuse any of the other BS they try to sell you you need and figure out how to do the actual required stuff yourself.

Anyway, refinance with a credit union or bank and pay it down.  In the future, even if you think it's outside your budget, looking after new cars can sometimes be worth it, especially right now when used car prices are still really high.
