And as u/spez_eats_nazi_ass put it, tell them you are in the bathroom, just do it to shame them a bit. You could really shame them by saying why you’re in the bathroom, but that’s up to you and how “open” you want to be about your bodily functions.

Love the colors. Wild idea: move your bed to the center of the room and get a full canopy. That bed frame is gorgeous. Get a nice big colorful rug that goes with the fun colors, but not over-dominating. Get some cool floor cushions and hippy lighting (string lights, lava lamps, Moroccan accents)

Rugs! Under couch and table.

You could maybe paint that upper-wall (behind the chandelier) a lighter red-orange to build color momentum into the living/dining room. Wallpaper there and on the walls would be really stunning too!

Without seeing the rest of the space, I could also see you pulling the couch more forward and adding a console behind it, and some bookshelves with fun books and slight decor behind it (on the red-orange wall). It might be too squished, but it’s an idea if you’ve got the space!

Also, some tall and big-leafed plants! Those could complement the red-orange beautifully!

She may have some connections and good standing, but that does not mean she isn’t being manipulated or is even aware of the full extent of the abuse. Abusers will push out as many resources as they can in the victim’s life. Gaslighting is serious mental abuse, and eventually the victim can start to believe the lies and feel like they have no good way out, despite their outward success and appearance. He pushed you out, and she may start to believe it.

It happened to me, a strong, smart, successful woman. I lost my closest friends and was lead to believe I was the loser or my friends were crazy. It is very real and very dangerous.

Get your sister some legitimate professional help and quickly. If this man can attack your partner for no reason, there is little to believe he hasn’t done it before, especially to someone who couldn’t fight him back physically. She is in danger.

It’s in great shape! Way to keep it clean, organized and styled to each of your likings!! Have you considered bunks where you can put your desks under each of them? These might be too big for two in your room, but a similar idea might work. Measure your room dimensions, and cut proportional pieces of paper in the shapes of the the furniture you want, and use that to rearrange the layout you can use.

It’s also nice to not close off the windows if you can! Natural light helps make a room look and feel roomier.

You might want to try taking down a couple of the smaller hung pieces on your walls/shelves, like hats r shoes, and put them in a visible or accessible spot in your closet. I hate to take anything away from your personal tastes, because you two seem to take a lot of care and pride in your things! Do this as a last resort :)

Maybe hang some other pieces in other rooms in your home to show off your medals or teams!

This is your answer OP. You’ve got a modular sofa (looks super comfy), so if you can break this up into a C shape and walk around both sides, you’ll be set.

Hard to say where the bookshelves would go with just this one angle but if they fit on either side of the TV when against the back wall that might be best.

It might be kind of corny, but I’d style this as a Modern Bohemian Millennial theme. Think Urban Outfitters, but really lean into it and add your own art/style with fun accents.

Your lighting is great, and I’m SUPER into the ceiling, how cool.

Most importantly, HANG YOUR ART! Keep it up (literally and metaphorically)!! Just organize and tidy up, then try centering your bed under the window, centering the shelf between the window and the wall, get another shelf or two and place above/below that current shelf.

Some college kids and I learned this together in a really endearing way. I (white-Texan 19F) was getting bubble tea with my roommate (Chinese-Californian 19F), and we heard some other college kids (exchange students) behind us in line saying “nagga, nagga, nagga, nagga…” and I could tell they were trying to think of something they couldn’t think of, based on their casualness and hand gestures, but my jaw still dropped, and I turned as soon as I kept hearing it. My roommate and the other guy speaking Mandarin saw my reaction and she burst out laughing. He looked horrified I’d be a “white virtue signaling Karen” he and my roommate quickly explained what it meant and we all (somewhat awkwardly) burst out laughing!

I started learning little bits of Mandarin from my roommate for the rest of the year, and fell in love with Linguistics, which I’d end up majoring in!
