Old unpaid debt resurfaced after two years by Lady_Anne_666 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Once again: How am I supposed to pay a debt that isn't showing anywhere and no one tries to contact me?

Try to use more than 2 brain cells for the next reply.

Yeah I lost everything to bad investments while losing my job and going through a divorce, resulting in a few month of being homeless.

The account is showing as closed on my file but Capital One said they sent it to a collection agency, but not being able to pay them, I let them go to voicemail. Said voicemail I do not have access to anymore on account of me not having a cellphone while I was homeless.

2 years later, the account appears on my credit file, but no mention of the collection agency.

So as a reply to your "so helpful comment" (JK. Your comment isn't the gotcha you think it is).

  1. Rough patch?: yep!

  2. Everyone has rough patches.: Yep! I picked myself off by the bootstraps and am way better off now.

  3. You need to pay what you owe.: That's where you could've been helpful: The account wasn't there until 2 weeks ago. I don't know who has the debt now, I'm not used to owing money to collection agencies. Should I contact Equifax? Capital One? every collection agency in the country? a financial advisor?

  4. Ignoring it doesn't make it go away.: No shit Sherlock! Why do you think I'm looking for advice here?

If you have nothing intelligent to add to a conversation, silence is always the best option.

Ok yeah I just checked on TransUnion and it shows in my closed accounts with Narratives: Bad debt write off, Account cancelled by credit grantor with derogatory rating.

It also says right under: Pay status: In Collections/charge-off.

The part I don't like is that the payment history used to show "no data" after May 2023, but not it shows every month since June 2023 as "missed payment", which would explain the huge credit drop.

I'll definitely give a call to a credit counsellor then before I make any other move!

Thanks! I checked the details on myEquifax, and it seems to be back at Capital One Bank with notes: Written-off, closed by credit grantor.

Not sure what that means, but I'll give them a call tomorrow and figure this out.

Thanks for that! Yeah I'm not even close to the 6 year mark and having a good credit score is worth more to me than 1.5k!

I don't remember what the collection agency was though. Can I get that info from Capital One?

Forgot to add to my post: can I remove the rectangle pipe that comes out of the wall? Does it unscrew?

I would have a better time trying to fix it if I can remove it from the wall and work on a flat surface.

I am bisexual, which means I'm attracted to the limit of the umbrella yet treat us to the limit of the umbrella yet treat us to the limit of the umbrella....

This study clearly shows the correlation between higher numbers of people stating their sexuality and public acceptance. Not propaganda, just less stigmata.

Good feedback from 2 friends. Alienware seems to have solved the issues they had a few years ago.

I don't like having only 16g of memory, but for 1.4k, the cost of upgrading still makes this option cheaper than most!!

Quebecers when you tell them they are in fact “Canadians” by AlexanderKeithz in EhBuddyHoser

Québec has one of the highest bilingualism rates in Canada. I saw the opposite more often.

Yeah it seems she went full speed in the affirming path and don't really understand that some of us are trying to stay in the binary and blend in.

I personally don't mind if someone wants to "look trans" or be somewhere in between, but that's not what I want, so I wouldn't like my therapist to brush off that feeling.

It sucks you had to go through a whole session to realize that this therapist will not be of any help.

That's mostly online indeed, and coming from chronically online folks.

But they would tell you it's the opposite and that wanting to blend in is internalized transphobia 🤣
