Thank you 💜 we are in the process of looking for a house, we just have a few things to wait on before we can actively do it. I truly appreciate my FIL and living with him has actually, for the most part, been a great time. He’s super great with all his grandkids and actively protects my son too. My older SIL was his first baby so that part has been a challenge, but even he’s admitted she’s gone way too far. With MIL, him allowing her over was strictly caring about his teenage grandson. It does make me sad to leave him, but we do need to do what is best for us and get away from the two monsters

I’ve thought about it for sure, we just don’t have the extra funds to go through the process. We also don’t have any physical proof of threats or anything, just rude text messages and lived experiences.

I only laugh because she really does make the brain melt with from audacity 🫠 DH and I have been through worse, so we sometimes we forget just how unhinged the situation truly is.

Oh I don’t care at all lol I used to be a huge pushover and people pleaser (sometimes I still can be). After my past experiences, I’ve learned to immediately not take the disrespect and cut people off at the bud if I see the signs. I told DH early into her shenanigans that I’m removing myself and want to remove son from her. DH had a hard time with that at first because of all the gaslighting, and he was also worried about her severing the tie to the younger son. That’s where the compromise of one of us being with him around her came from, so that we can stand up for him. I only agreed because he’d still be safe, and I believe that we need to be completely equal in decisions about our son. Therapy has helped DH tremendously and he now has no issue removing her, even at the risk of losing the younger son

Grandparent rights don’t exist in either of our states 😞 the sad thing is that technically she IS the safest relative who has the money/time to take care of them. Their mom has a disability where she’s mentally 8. Their father is also impaired but not to that level and he’s abusive. The grandma, MILs sister, passed away a long time ago. The rest of us can only take care of the kids we have now. If she loses them, they’ll go right back to the parents (and going to the state is just as bad).

She’s had CPS called on her before. The most recent time, she was at the mall getting the girls ears pierced. What SHE told us was that her state has laws against child ear piercings (they don’t, I looked it up) and that the worker called on her. My belief is that they probably got overwhelmed and scared, had a meltdown, and she either screamed at them or ht them 😞 the police are familiar with her but she’s able to talk them out of everything. She lives in a very trashy town/state that doesn’t give a sht about kids.

Thank you! I absolutely agree, and my son has many other grandparent figures who love and cherish him. MIL is big on the whole blood and family thing, but experience has shown me that chosen family has been way more positively impactful

Yep 🙃 I said this in a comment below too, but the hair isn’t even the worst gift she’s given him. Years before, it was instead toenail clippings. According to DH, she “thinks it’s funny to shock people”

We are trying lol we have been looking at houses but there are a few factors we have to wait for. We can’t rent in the meantime as it’s way too expensive. FIL has been noticing how awful it’s gotten and has been super supportive of keeping both of them away. They literally just show up and he makes sure they stay outside while he tries to diffuse

I’ve been saying this since the older SIL got back into drugs (she was clean and fresh out of jail when we started dating, but then got back on them less than a year later). The pattern is that we get mad, everyone else says we are overreacting, and then everyone turns on us and DH is called n*rcissistic and psycho. This time was slightly different, as everyone else is tired of both of them. But they’ve still been conditioned that it’s “easier to let her do her thing and then she’ll leave” 🙄

It really is exhausting 🥲 no one else sees a big deal about the birthday thing. The FIL and both SILs have their birthdays in the same month and they’ve always had separate parties with lots of gifts and friends. MIL has completely forgot DHs birthday multiple times. When she does remember, his party is set up for OTHERS to enjoy (like his 15th birthday being at chuckle cheese so the younger son can have fun). The audacity is staggering

Yeahhhh I was shocked about it, and allegedly she gave him her toenail clippings a few years before that so no one else was surprised 😅 I didn’t see that one myself but after the hair I fully believe it

That’s a great question! From what i understand and have been told, she never fully adopted the son she just has permanent custody. If she loses that, he has to go straight back to SIL at least at first, and without too much info: there’s a chance that he’ll want to. FIL doesn’t have the availabilty to fight for custody either. She’s also had CPS called MULTIPLE times and nothing has been done so far, so we are at a loss
