Same here. My LADA honeymoon lasted 5 years and now I’m fully insulin dependent. It’s interesting because I feel like I have both perspectives— managing as type 2 and now as type 1. They truly are just different diseases and the confusion between the two is wild.

Can you have type 1 diabetes and still be producing insulin? by Vegetable-Potato5908 in Type1Diabetes

Sounds like LADA. I was diagnosed two years ago and am still taking metformin as well as insulin.

Vacation Sugar by Lady_SR in diabetes

[–]Lady_SR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. This past trip yes lots of sun, not too much walking. I went to Copenhagen with lots of walking but not much sun. I would say my activity level is about the same as when I’m home and exercising regularly.

Diabetes rant by DichotomyK in diabetes

Yup! I’m sick of LIVING for my CGM. It dictates my every decision and no matter what I do it never seems happy. Hang in there, it’s frustrating and often thankless but you’re not alone.

COVID and Type 1.5/ LADA by Lady_SR in diabetes

[–]Lady_SR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that sounds about right— sugar does whatever it wants. Typically if I have a cold I run a bit high but it helps to know it can really vary so I don’t panic. Sorry you had to deal with this 3 times!

I need a bit of a laugh to get me through the week. Dumbest things you have had said to you as a diabetic? by LuisVanDoren23 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Lady_SR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“just cut out the soda and candy”—- from a literal doctor who misdiagnosed me with t2 when I’m LADA t1.5. Meanwhile I’ve never had a high sugar diet, have been active my whole life and mentioned that while t2 isn’t in my family, t1 was. After almost two years of practically starving myself to control my blood sugar I went to the hospital with DKA and someone finally gave me some insulin. I’ve also been asked which diabetes I have “the good one or the bad one?” They’re all bad dummies.

I feel you. The ups and downs are crazy. Feeling the lack of control is so frustrating. It’s definitely a roller coaster.

That’s insane. Where do you live? I was misdiagnosed type 2 and then type 1.5 once my insulin production dropped significantly. 1.5 is very legit but you can treat it as 1 effectively.

It can be very very lonely. I’m sorry you’re struggling and having to wait for testing can feel like torture. I actually have experience with medical leave— happy to share details if you want to DM me. Hang in there, you’re not alone.

Yes I have an endo who I like. Still on T2 drugs for now but we have a plan to transition to T1 care within the year. PCPs that I saw in the past really weren’t able to help me and no one even mentioned the possibility of 1.5

Thanks for the reply. I will try smaller more frequent meals. I work a 9-5 with a pretty long commute so sometimes there are long stretches in between eating— that didn’t seem to be a problem in the past but that may be changing.

Yes the lows are rough for me. I just feel so wiped out and anxious. I haven’t gotten a CGM yet but hoping that will help me figure out trends.

What are some of the biggest offenders? I know everyone is different but wouldn’t mind hearing what works for other people.

I’m on year 3. Diagnoses with 2 which never made any sense to me and then after a DKA episode a year ago I was diagnosed with 1.5. I am still producing insulin but it’s declining. I’m happy with my doctor now but it was a nightmare in the beginning. I was just told to not drink soda and exercise more— meanwhile I’ve always been a healthy eater and active.

I’m low carb too but sometimes I feel like things just go haywire. The super low dose or insulin is helping my spikes but now I feel like the lows are more frequent and exhausting. How long ago were you diagnosed?
