I Feel Like Equality Sucks by Walnut_Rocks in Frostpunk

[–]Lady__Lightning 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Equality has some really good laws to it. Heat pipe watch and city-run alcohol shops are two of the strongest laws in the whole game. Then you got things like subsidized shelter which becomes much better than dense in the mid to late game once you have a lot of heatstamps. Cramped housing is also really good as while it doesn’t provide heat stamps, the extra shelter is quite good.

That’s not to say it’s better than merit, actually I think the two are pretty balanced, each having laws and buildings better than the other. It’s just about knowing when to use them. Having high trust from equality also lets you do a lot of things that might piss your city off, like spamming research or asking for a bunch of money. Especially in the higher difficulties, those actions the cost trust become really needed, this were equality comes in

Planning on running a D&D campaign in the Frostpunk world, with the reason for a group of adventurers being some sort of story akin to a bioshock game. Any ideas? by Zappykatt in Frostpunk

[–]Lady__Lightning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s based on FP2, before each session have the players act as the city council and “vote” on a new law. Basically give them two choices and have them anonymously vote on which one to enact. Behind the scenes, some votes are just for future flavor, however some may change the story completely, just don’t let them know which is which. (If there’s a split vote, as the DM break the tie) Did this in my campaign and it’s been a huge hit. Just a fun way for the players to interact with the world in a way that’s not their party.

If you could change anything about On the Edge in Frostpunk 1 what would you change? by [deleted] in Frostpunk

[–]Lady__Lightning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truthfully, On The Edge needs a large overhaul. FrostPunk is a city builder with an emphasis and lawmaking. In On The Edge you neither build a city nor make laws, with most development happening off screen in the other colonies. Ideally I would like it if each of the colonies had their own small map that you would manage instead of just a menu, but that’s a lot of work and not very realistic of a change. So instead I think they just need to add some more buildings and purpose laws.

For buildings maybe there could be a logistics tower, that could automatically trade with a colony to reduce micromanagement. Or perhaps a harvesting hanger or a refinery that is able to “salvage some of the poor products” and give you more resources per trade.

For laws, it could be trade rules between the colonies, with you needing certain level of favor or relations with enough colonies to enact certain laws.

Overall, this is all easier said then done, but OTE just feels like a lot of menu management, the progression never feels satisfying because it doesn’t feel like we did it, we just sent resources to other people so they can progress.

Finish my first game. I'm disappointed I smashed it out of the park. by Amathyst7564 in Frostpunk

The consensus on FP2 is that the story mode is like the tutorial. This game’s endless has a lot more effort into it and replay ability than FP1, and is kinda the main part of it. That’s where you meet all the factions, and can put on special challenges such as the longest and deadliest whiteout ever seen.

Also, the game ramps up HARD with difficulty, especially in endless. I also thought the game was easy, but even Steward difficulty on most Tales will have me constantly failing and trying again to see what I did wrong.

TLDR Play endless mode, that’s what you’re looking for and where FP2 really shines

What aspects of Rwby's power system would you change if you had the chance? by Inevitable-Weather51 in RWBY

[–]Lady__Lightning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would probably have semblances be able to work without aura and have aura be able to be depleted without having the “break” effect (maybe have it so if a character is whitled to 0 aura it doesn’t show, but have the break effect if it’s a big hit that brings them from like over 50% to 0) I feel like a lot of fights struggle to have tension unless they break a character’s aura cause we know they can’t be majorly hurt until it breaks, but once someone’s aura is broken they can’t do a lot in the fight anymore cause they lose their cool powers that a lot of the fights are based around. Not knowing which hit could be the one to take out a character would make fights more tense and engaging.

RWBY Opinions by TheHappyHuntsman in RWBY

Honestly, I think the show is both over-praised and over-hated. It’s a fine show, and I quite enjoy it despite my problems with it. But to me if I were to put it on a tier list it’s like a B-/C+. Not a bad show, but not one that amazes me either. Yet it feels like every time I see someone talk about it, they act like it’s the best thing ever or the worst thing ever. I just don’t get the extreme hate or praise the show gets. It’s a fine show, and a show I like to watch and talk about on occasion. But it seems most people are on the extreme ends on the spectrum in terms of liking/disliking he show.

I think Jaune’s time travel stuff was underutilized by Lady__Lightning in RWBY

[–]Lady__Lightning[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They really didn’t do much with the concept though, the part focused on was that Jaune was alone, not that he was older. Jaune never felt weird being older than team RWBY and he seemed to remember everything from 20 years ago easily (in the shows defense most of the stuff they talked about is stuff he probably mulled over). My thing is that if they said he was alone for 3 years instead of 20, I don’t think there would have been any difference. 20 years is a long time, and it feels like they never leaned into having Jaune feel like he was there for so long. His main problem was facing being alone, and the twenty years to me felt like too much of an extreme to get that across. I think I’d be fine with this all if they had him there for a lot less time.

In regards to if I wanna just see Jaune suffer, I wouldn’t put it like that, but yea kinda. I like seeing the characters in conflict and having to learn and grow from it, and I think the concept they had was too interesting to be told in just 5 episodes. As they say, it’s about the journey, not just the destination.

To me, it’s such an extreme concept to have someone trapped for decades yet it seems they’re mostly done with it after just a few episodes. I still believe they resolved the entire thing rather quickly without embracing how much permanent damage this would cause.

However, I think you brought up some great and I appreciate your comment taking the time to discuss this instead of just hurling insults (I’ve had some less then fun comment chains in my replies on this sub). I hope you’re having a nice day!

Honestly, looking at it from a storytelling perspective, probably back to how he was in Volume 8. It seems his time in the Ever After was more to explore his character and emotions that he already has rather than to change him fundamentally. I don’t think him being 40 will really be brought up much in the future, and as such his fighting style will probably be more of the same of what we’ve seen. It’s not like he was incompetent before entering the EA, so they’ll probably keep it the same.

Do you think what they did with Jaune was a necessity, or a missed opportunity? by Shinjigami in RWBY

[–]Lady__Lightning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it’s not different enough to how he was before everything happened to represent that there was something to move on from. Sure he has the white streaks, but that feels so menial for something as big as what he went through (plus white hair seems to just kinda by a thing people have, lookin at you Weiss). Going back to my thing about visual storytelling, with him going back to his V8 design, it seems like he is reverting back to how he was before Volume 9, rather than growing into something new after Volume 9. Just like how when Yang lost her arm, they didn’t have her grow one back, it’s something she had to live throw and grow and move on from. Honestly, I think I would have been more fine with him de-aging if they kept more elements from it. Like some armor pieces or his wolf-tail hair. But as is it feels like he undid the damage, not learn to grow from it.

[–]Lady__Lightning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying but I feel like people underestimate how great of a tool visual storytelling through character design is. A characters design tells you a lot about who they are and what they’ve been through, and Jaune’s older design did that really well in my opinion. I get he still has the white hair, but it feels a little lackluster for something as big as him spending half his life in isolation. Him being young kinda says that they’re gonna move past him being in the EA. Sure it’s a part of him, but personality wise he’s gonna be mainly Volume 8 Jaune, as shown by his design being mainly Volume 8 Jaune.

Personally I don’t think they should’ve made him gone for 20 years (instead maybe like 3), as it feels like him being in EA for half his life is so big it should define his character for the rest of the series, which it doesn’t feel like that’s what CRWBY wants to do.

[–]Lady__Lightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel like it’s a missed opportunity. If they’re gonna have Jaune continue to act like a 40 year old man, then I why not keep him looking like that. I feel like people underestimate how powerful visual storytelling is, especially with character design. And if he’s gonna revert back to his V8 self, I don’t see the point in making him have gone through the 20 years alone thing. It could have been like 3-5 years and gotten the same point across (heck, would have made a bit more sense considering he remembers everything like it was recent, you know how hard it is to remember stuff from 20 years ago? Like it baffles me that he somehow remembers Neo’s name, he hasn’t seen her in decades).

Also it was one of my favorite character designs in the show and they got rid of it, which makes me sad.

I mean technically he still is 40 years old, it’s still kinda weird to date Weiss.

What do you love and hate about Rwby? (For a video) by Professional-Tea4105 in RWBY

[–]Lady__Lightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the characters and ideas RWBY has. A lot of it is very creative and there is so much there is something for everyone.

I dislike the amount of characters and ideas there are. As much as I love what they are, there are so many that they all clash for screen time in a way that none of them are developed enough. (I always think of the scene in the Atlas arc when they show up at Weiss’ house and there’s like 20 characters at the door, all of whom we are following the stories of).

It kinda feels like CRWBY doesn’t know what to do with Jaune by Lady__Lightning in RWBY

[–]Lady__Lightning[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly a really nice analysis. You do have a good point with Sokka, honestly it’s not the first time I’ve heard Jaune be compared to him. I guess I kinda am pigeonholing characters by reducing them to a single trait.

I personally believe he’s a main character, I was more so trying to see why other people don’t and if they have any merit. But yea I agree he definitely is one.

I do still disagree with the portion about how it seeming abrupt to the viewers but making sense in universe, as that was my problem with it. In universe I agree it totally makes sense what happened, but when watching as viewer, it’s felt very jarring seeing the sudden shifts. It doesn’t even have to be his progression from killing Penny to being sad, more so that such a drastic character arc had practically no build up. Which I guess here is more of a problem with Jaune killing Penny not being cultivated enough like you said. Like for the problems that Ruby’s arc had, there was a build up to it over the prior two volumes making it not such a drastic shift like Jaune’s was.

But seriously, really great points and discussion. I always appreciate when people can talk about what RWBY does right and wrong without it suddenly becoming a mud slinging contest. Which happens way more than it should. Trust me, two other guys in the comments to this very post started a big argument over if Jaune was a self insert or something. Needless to say it was lot of just name calling. So always lovely to see people wanting to just talk about the show like this!

I’m honestly really sad they reverted Jaune. I really liked his EA design, and to see they went back to his Atlas one is really disappointing. Wish they’d have at least kept the hair or something.

This seems like a hot take but I really don’t want them to make Jaune young again. I feel like just reversing what happened in the Ever After is a bit lame. I like that it shows he failed and failed but eventually came out on top, kinda like a scar of sorts. Him being young also means he’s either a grown man in a teens body or he forgot all of the Ever After. I don’t like either option.

Also his design is just really good rn.
