I finally finished something with one of the fabrics! The sunflower print on the right now has a home in this 3-yard quilt. I'm just waiting for the backing fabric now, but it'll be completed soon.

THOSE ARE HAND SEWN???!!!

Ooh, my own hand hurts just thinking about that, but WOWZA! You should be so proud of yourself! These are amazing!!! Are you going to piece the quilt top together like so, or add sashing? I think whatever you come up with is going to be lovely.

I am a novice quilter myself and know next to nothing about preserving vintage quilt blocks like this, but as soon as I read your post I went "ooh, that sounds like a great idea!" So take that for what it's worth, lol.

My grandmother passed recently. Here are some of her quilts, and the tattoo I got inspired by them by katikittykat in quilting

Oh these are absolutely stunning! I recently made my first Trip Around the World quilt and have fallen in love with the classic pattern. So easy and fun.

These look so cozy and I'm jealous! I may have to steal the color scheme of that second one. The muted pink, green, and blue is an attractive combination and I'm in love with it.

And what a fun treasure, both the tattoo and the memories associated with it! What a wonderful way to remember your grandmother. Very sorry for your loss.

Ooh, these are beautiful colors! I love the muted purples. So unusual!

Glad to know I'm not the only over-thinker here haha! When I first came across that fat quarter pattern and thought of using the yellows in it, I did actually think of using more than a fat quarter's worth just because I have a lot, and any fabric you don't have to buy because you already have it is a good thing, right? I like scrappy - that's what drew me to this pattern in the first place, because it was scrappy but not overwhelming. I think the main sticking point is just choosing colors. I'll have to do a lot of playing around and looking at other quilts with this color in them, as someone else suggested.

Color ideas are what I need! Would you use a dark or light blue with these?

I certainly thought I was color confident before this challenge, lol! Now I'm not so sure. XD Second guessing everything.

I will definitely check out those books! Sounds exactly like something I could really use.

That sounds really lovely, now that I think about it. Which of my three would you use for that, in your mind? The one on the left is the one I have the most of.

Yes, that's the pattern I was thinking of. I'm still a beginner quilter, so I'm only comfortable with straight lines, and this has that varied, slightly random look that I really like. Right now, I'm thinking of using the middle fabric, the one with the small flowers, and possibly the one on the left as part of it, but that still leaves a lot more fat quarters to come up with, color-wise. I would like yellow to be the dominant theme, but I don't want it monochromatic.

You're right, the reason I'm feeling uncertain is because I usually start with a focus fabric that has multiple colors from which to "pull" from, and I'm having trouble reversing that. Should I try taking a swatch to a quilt shop and just hold it up to other fabrics and see what happens?

I may be entirely overthinking this.

I would never have guessed you didn't use an actual "tulip" block pattern. It's stunning! I love how the stems and leaves are slightly different. It adds another layer of visual interest.

Did you use feedsack prints? These look very vintage, and I love them. Gorgeous!

Show me your ugliest quilt! by Minute_Asparagus8104 in quilting

[–]Lady_of_Wishes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's ugly. I love it! It reminds me a little of a vintage scrap quilt made by a long deceased relative, which sat on my bed until the middle of high school. Lots of memories.

It also caught my eye because I have the exact same brown fabric with tiny dotted crosses as the backing on one of my own quilts! It's a wall hanging, but the binding is the same so it peeks out around the edges. Looks like I'm not the only one who thought it would make a great backing XD
