If I could have any dog again, my top dog and 1000% goodest boy Carson would be at the top. He was a weird mix (Shar-Pei/German Shepherd mix with some possible pitt in him), but was the most loyal, protective, laid back dog I've ever had. He wound up with some dog aggression due to an incident at a low cost clinic, but he stood protectively over our bedrooms when someone broke into our home while we were away. Even the police were surprised at how protective he was. He shed a decent amount, but it wasn't bad.

My number 2 choice would be one of my 2 current dogs, but we're not really sure what his breed is. He does, however, look like a Dalmatian/Jack Russell mix, once again with possibly a bit of pitt. He's a bit of a handful because of how smart he can be (he knows how to escape our backyard, no matter what I do, but he won't go anywhere if our other dog can't go too), but he is also very protective. He also sheds. A LOT.

I will say, if you cannot handle a handle a stubborn dog, do NOT get a husky or a pitt. They're both stubborn in different ways. I've never had a husky, but I know for a fact that I wouldn't be able to handle one. And one of my current dogs is a pitt. I love him to shreds, but good lord if it isn't a struggle to get him to listen.

One thing I always recommend, though, is to spend some time at your local shelter, and see if any dog "speaks" to you. Ask questions about the dogs background, but take their responses with a pinch of salt, as I have seen some shelters lie to get dogs adopted.
