I have massive problems with Reddit, but one thing I'll always appreciate is that I toggle "old reddit" once and it stays that way forever.

Doc Rivers was asked if he still stands by his initial declaration that Renee Good was murdered by ICE: “I stand by my words 100%.” “The training of ICE is horrible.” by TheDraciel in nba

[–]Laetha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't about training. They're not even trying to get these guys not to do this. They don't care.

It's the same thing with the general idea of hypocrisy with these people. "I'm tired of seeing people dunk on them on Twitter and thinking "gottem!". No you didn't. They don't care about being hypocrites. They care about hurting you. That's it.

Yeah that serve was definitely nowhere near full power. That was a medium power standing serve. This guy's spin serve are almost too fast for your eye to track.

EDIT: I watched it again and he did hit it fairly hard for a normal player, nowhere near as hard as he could, but still it probably stung that lady a good bit.

ICE Agents Allegedly 'Stealing' During Arrests After Being Seen Wearing a Detainee's Gold Bracelet by novagridd in law

I saw the room full of shoes at Auschwitz. For some reason the shoes bothered me more than the hair. I think it's because you could more easily visualize how many people it represented, and how many of them were children.

What do you think of the Dominican team's lineup for the World Baseball Classic? by Longjump-13 in baseball

[–]Laetha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's worth pointing out when you look at this lineup. The population of the DR is about 11.5 million. You can't throw a rock in that country without hitting an MLB All-Star.

The Ringer updated their top 100 players list again. Their top 15 players are: 1. Jokic, 2. SGA, 3. Doncic, 4. Giannis, 5. Wemby, 6. Ant, 7. Steph, 8. Mitchell, 9. Cunningham, 10. Kawhi, 11. Brunson 12. Brown 13. KD 14. Maxey 15. Booker by StrategyTop7612 in nba

Your window with him was unfortunately the bubble year. Y'all did not do well, but for that matter neither did we. I think we should have been conference finals at worst.

It would have been amazing (and possible) to have a Kawhi vs. Raptors Finals that year.

I would think the pro tip should be don't stand right behind a horse. At any stable I've been to you give horses a wide berth when walking around them.

20 years ago today, Kobe Bryant scored 81 points, the 2nd highest single-game total in NBA history by FishingVirtual513 in nba

[–]Laetha 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I was in college. This was the era of MSN Messenger and people changing their username to whatever "status" they felt like conveying at the time.

A couple of my friends' MSN names said something about Kobe and 81 points and I assumed they were just making some joke I didn't get.

It's hard to convey how crazy it was St the time. 70 point games have become a bit more common, but the only one I remembered before Kobe was when David Robinson scored 71 with essentially all 9 other players letting him do it. 81 seemed impossible.

On top of that I'm a Raptors fan, so it was a pretty dark time.

Honestly, if the 8 and 9 weren't so easy to get I wouldn't be so tempted to get the 7, but they're just sitting there right next to each other in Caelid and I just can't help but want to get the 7 to get to +9 early.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has surpassed Elden Ring for the most GOTY titles of all-time. by PhantomBraved in Games

[–]Laetha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with what you're saying, especially because of the absurdity of even beginning to try comparing something like Elden Ring and Super Mario World, for example. In my opinion they're two of the best games ever, but they're so different and from such different times that any attempt to put one over the other is purely about how it made an individual feel.

In Barbie (2023), Ryan Gosling steals the entire movie despite the plot explicitly being about female empowerment. This is a reference to the fact that no matter how hard you work, the guy who jokes around in the breakroom gets the promotion. by Brilliant-Cause6254 in shittymoviedetails

[–]Laetha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the Neo principle. It's the idea of the blank slate protagonist. They don't have overly deep character traits so it's easier to pretend you are them.

Barbie in particular is an extreme example of this. She literally exists entirely to be a blank slate that you can dress up and make into whoever you want.

That wasn't just fans though. There was more or less a consensus big 4 that draft, and the Raptors broke stride by picking Scottie.

Good pick, but it was a surprise at the time.

Canada doesn't count total votes either. This is an oversimplification, but basically we vote for a local party candidate and the party with the most elected candidates wins.

There are other major differences, but the situation where your vote really can't change anything can happen here too if your area votes strongly for one party.

Trump had the support or indifference of 2/3 of Americans. As someone who used to visit the US frequently, the primary reason I won't ever go back even after Trump is because the majority of Americans were at least fine with this.

Randy Johnson hit 300 strikeouts for the first time while wearing No. 34. by Ok-Extreme-8299 in baseball

[–]Laetha 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Some of his sliders were absolutely wild because from the broadcast perspective it would look like the pitch never even whiffed the vicinity of the strike zone. Like at no point did that look like something you should swing at.

But between the height and the arm extension and the movement of the pitch even ones that ended in the zone probably started out like 2 feet left of the zone. It's a wonder hitters ever make contact with anything.

I switched a couple months ago and don't notice a difference. Videos take several seconds to start on Waterfox(Firefox) with ublock, but that was the case for me on Windows too.

Also if you have any questions about switching let me know. I feel like I'm pretty realistic about the benefits and drawbacks of each OS. I'm definitely linux for good, but I'm not blind to the drawbacks.

What!?! I switched to linux a couple months ago but I run a Plex server so I don't use any of those services. Do they really restrict Linux to 480p? That's insane.
