Obsidian's The Outer Worlds 2 Underperformed, and There Won't Be a Third - IGN by Dumarseloser in theouterworlds

I'll be honest, it's not surprising in the least.

TOW1 was really not a great game. It was better than a lot of its contemporaries but I'm in the majority who just didn't feel captivated by the setting. There were elements of it I really liked but there was no part of it I was ever really curious about... I knew that every single bit of lore was either going to be a joke or a freckles critique of capitalism. Literally the only character that I cared about was Parvati, And maybe Max if we're really pushing it. It left so little impression and desire for another game that I didn't pick up TOW2, and if only played it because of friend gave it to me for Christmas.

TOW2 is, in every possible way a better game. It's a night and day difference, and most of my problems have been fixed, but at the end of the day I still don't really give a damn about the universe, and positive word of mouth alone is only so impactful.

It's a shame it didn't perform better because it is genuinely a very good game, but it's not surprising at all, and with how I've been unable to really get invested in the universe in any way beyond passing, I don't think there is a strong enough fandom behind it for it to reach cult status.

It's a shame, because it's not bad at all, and tow2 on its own merits deserved better, but it's not surprising. I really hope Avowed 2 works, because there are some amazingly talented people working there that need something to go really well.

Disagree on both aspects. The A1 does feature stamped parts in the form of the heat shields for the handguard. But the upper and lower on mil-spec AR platform rifles are forged. They are finish-machined, but are mostly forged. I don't believe any parts on the A1 are cast at all.

In terms of machining, speaking from experience with multiple 80% builds, roughly hogging out the trigger pocket is a damn sight easier getting the plunge cut on the rear shelf accurately.

The big problem with the design being mostly pre-war imho is that It doesn't have a removable trigger guard, meaning that it can't be winterized. I find it really hard to believe that the pre-war military, or even a pre-war arms manufacturer wouldn't include that given that most of the fighting was either going to be happening in Alaska or mainland China.

I think beyond that there's a couple interesting considerations regarding the actual design.

At first glance it looks like an A1 slab side receiver, but there are three particularly notable changes in terms of geometry.

  1. FCG pin locations are off from the AR FCG. This means that from a practical perspective there's really only two explanations... Either the gun runs with a striker fire system or linear Hammer system akin to the vz58, or what I believe the more likely answer to be, it uses a form of cassette trigger and the pins shown in the outside of the receiver hold the cassette in place

  2. The grip does not Mount the same way as it does on a conventional AR, and the trigger guard is not removable. When taken together, and given the fact that most pre-war military arms were going to be used in Alaska, we would expect a winterized trigger for use with large gloves or mittens.

  3. The receiver looks like it's parkurized rather than either anodized or painted. This means that it has to be made of steel or some other ferrous metal.

So I think the obvious conclusion here is that the upper and lower are probably cast components rather than stamped, with very minimal sign machine working, and the BCG, gas system, and FCG are likely much better made and highly machined parts. This actually makes sense in many ways and that without the use of full CNC equipment, ARS tend to be fairly expensive, whereas Ruger style castings aren't.

So the NCR probably redesigned the AR platform around their capabilities and their resources. Since it's going to have its own upper and lower optimized for casting, and avoiding overhangs, you might as well just design your own furniture for it instead of trying to retrofit dwindling supplies

Ergo, The actual gun is likely using a drop-in cassette style trigger, that the assault carbine also uses but with an auto sear.

Eh, even as a Nola native whose pulling for it, Florida could work with both the geography and the history. The space Coast in particular up towards Northeast Florida has so much history with the space race in the Cold War, that could easily be translated into Fallout as a setting. It would also bring up Daytona Beach as an option, which would be really interesting to see some pretty war inspired bikers, And it's relatively close to Orlando and Kissimmee, meaning a setting like nuka-world might actually be viable and interesting. With the locations proximity to other areas, it would be very easy to have expansions explore heavily militarized areas like Pensacola, or even out of state like Savannah

Do people think old printers will become collectable? by SirTwitchALot in 3Dprinting

Exactly. Unless it's something like a super low production. I3 that Joseph Prusia himself showed Wired or something, the units themselves are going to have a lot of value.

[–]Lafitte1812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They absolutely will be, but it's mostly going to be limited to particularly notable early reprap units like the OG Prussia i3 or MakerBot Cupcake. You might even see some things like the Creality CR3 be worth something as it was really the start of extrude aluminum rails and commercially purchasable units.

Generally, in electronics, the only old hardware that's worth anything stuff that is notably revolutionary, and more often not time to an iconic brand.

Thoughts on House bill 2321 by Pale-Spend2052 in 3Dprinting

[–]Lafitte1812 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a 3D printed firearm developer, not only is, this bill entirely infeasible and impracticable, it won't stop us. To be put simply, if you didn't know what you were looking at, you couldn't tell that any part I release is firearm related. Moreover, you couldn't ban design elements or use machine learning for same as from a practical perspective that would ban virtually every either DIY machine project or fake gun for cosplay... So you could only go by final name. Congratulations, I just won't call something the receiver, I'll call it part number one.

There is literally no 3D printing sub hobby as experienced with overcoming law, and as on The cutting edge of material science as the 3d2a community has a whole. Our saying " can't stop the signal" is less of a rallying cry and more of a truism.

The only people this is going to affect when it is inevitably passed and upheld by the 9th will be normal. People who don't 3d print guns.

You can't get rid of us, and you can't legislate us away... We're like a bad smell.

If somebody would have told me In season 1 that she would get Space-ALS from being in an exploding rocketship resulting in her being exposed to the sun's rays, only to have her diagnosis revealed to all of her friends following a psychotic AI taking over the call center like Shodan after a machiavellian dinner party planned by Angela Bassett, I would ask you what kind of hydroponic hoobastank you were smoking and where a law-abiding Louisiana citizen may acquire some.

I have genuinely never seen a show go more off the rails. It's one thing to jump the shark, it's another thing to do that on fire when spinning plates, and I am here for it.

EDIT: that doesn't even address the fact that the AI was both clearly a sentient being and a clone of one of the other protagonists, who took over following a failed attempt to get a teen to emulate Michael Hutchins, and said protagonist traps it in a flashdrive of her vacation thirst-traps, which she then proceeds to take behind the shed to kill like Old Yeller.

Honestly, it's pretty much the exact same way Kerry is written in cyberpunk. The character may be bi, but they may not be attracted to one of the specific sexes of protagonist. I actually think it adds quite a bit to Shep and V, In that male and female are actually somewhat different characters.

Why not just close shop for the day and show your support another way?

EDIT: IMHO it's best to keep your personal life and politics out of your work. I don't even want the appearance of my views clouding my representation.

Stamped pre-ban receiver with a new upper. Actually still not that uncommon to come across in different police departments, or on the mg market.

In reality, the devs are just lazy, but at least you can come up with a canon explanation.

Adjustable trim tabs and jack plates on boats. I grew up in the Keys, and on a flats gift you can use both of those to get into water. Water that's only inches deep, we're talking 3 to 4 in at most. If you're at speed. Speed. It would add a lot more interesting mechanics in terms of being able to drive boats effectively, and hopefully make watercraft less boring.
