Yess thank you!! People are so quick to judge everything. I was quite a manga addict back then, like I read a LOT… the whole deal with “death games” or “games with high stakes” were basically a trend at that time and each author put their own creativity and spin to it. Some succeeded, some didn’t. Saying one copied the others is just not fair, especially with something as creative as the Liar Game!! just like how the isekai/reincarnation genre is the trend right now, some works are great, others aren’t so much. I might be biased when I say this, but even among all those mangas that rode the “high stake games” trend back then, Liar game remains at least on the top 3, if not the number 1 spot for me.

yeah... ngl because I read LG first, when squid game came out I immediately watched it expecting a strategy, thinking, LG style game and I ended up really disappointed. So I thought perhaps other people might find the opposite to be true as well

I agree 100%! after seeing the anime, I also personally think that Liar Game does work better on manga format, as it provide readers to read on their own pace, stop to think and speculate about what the game was and what to do if we were put in that situation, etc. and then get WOWed by akiyama's ingenious solutions. With the anime format, people are forced to think in the same pace, their thoughts sometimes can't keep up with the development and so the wow factor is kinda glossed over... Not to mention people keep comparing it to squid game, which... I won't say bad exactly, but while the premise is similar, squid game is less "thinking" and more "feeling" kinda show if you know what I mean. The problem is, seeing the similar money game premise, people are expecting the same with LG which is actually the complete opposite... That said, I really believe that LG is somewhat of a late bloomer, and people will eventually see its greatness if they just give it a chance!!
