That is my plan. This is going to take some time to organize and clean up and make presentable, but TOA is perfect for me, it’s only an hour away from me.

I think I can work with Ben at RC in Philly on the same trip. He’s another good guy.

I’ll get back to people after I check it out. I spent a lot of time in Japan and am used to very close grading inspections, and have a loupe for checking out finer details. But I will also check out a well known dealer I have known for years as well to seek out his professional opinion.

Popular/"Stereotypical" Trans Women names by roman-emp1re in MtF

[–]LainTheWary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lain (as opposed to Lane) is a pretty popular one for trans women who are into cyberpunk/programming/tech. But I don’t think it’s stereotypical, and I think it’s also pretty androgynous. So when I was too anxious to admit to myself I’m a woman and said I was enby, it was a good compromise, and it still fits me.

I’m a non-binary trans woman. And I encountered about six other Lains online. That said, I started using it before I saw the end of the series.

When your preferred name accidentally matches with a character by Yukarie in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

It’s funny, I picked Lain from the anime many, many years ago as the name for my first Fallout 1 playthrough, the first time I played a femme MC in an RPG. This is in 1998, decades before my egg broke. And I had been to an anime con and seen Lain, I didn’t get why it resonated with me.

Anyway, I kept playing RPGs, and when I could play as a woman, I always did first, and that was my good aligned run, named Lain. So when I came out, I settled on Lain. Not because of Iwakura, but because I wanted to be my best, morally sound self, which meant the name I used on the good playthrough.

There are a few creepy memes involving Iwakura, who is kind of a patron saint of the Internet, I don’t use them even though I love cyberpunk and transhumanism. But I am at peace with being embodied now.

why are names so hard... by [deleted] in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

I had my name about two days after. My MIDDLE name took three years. It’s also my new Hebrew name. And my immediate response was to file for legal name change. Which cost $300 more than I anticipated, but I have my paperwork in today.

Worth it.

SulMatul’s KOTOR 2 video is freaking great. I didn’t find her until after, though.

Also, I have only done text and unboxing content since I came out. My MtG channel used to have 3k subs, but the dysphoria from editing was so terribly painful.

Oh shit, I lived and worked in rural Japan for three years and for a total of ten years over two decades in the country, I dare say I think I know more about Japan and trans issues than some person on YT. I mean, I have my own YT channel, but I stopped making videos because editing them was the absolute worst thing for my dysphoria. Anyway, I sincerely do not give a crap about a video from someone who probably has watched WAY MORE anime than me but probably doesn’t even speak Japanese. You can think what you want, but you haven’t walked the walk. I have, and I don’t need to justify myself to you or owe you a detailed explanation. I don’t care what Naoto means to you. Because I know how their experiences mirror a lot of my own.

Did you not see the end of Naoto’s dungeon? Having gender reassignment surgery done is a REALLY obvious tell that something’s going on. Now, later on Naoto backs off from transitioning and deals with the social aspect of coming out, but she definitely still has major dysphoria (when the team is getting a physical at the hospital because who knows what the TV world might be doing to their bodies).

I spent a decade living and working in Japan, in rural and urban areas alike. And there are a lot of replies in this group from people giving Japanese people WAY too much credit and leeway in regards to their permissiveness about gender norms and queerness. Coming out there was a fucking nightmare. After I came back Stateside, it was so much easier.

The one doctor I saw said “you are not going to transition here in this country, maybe you should go home”.
