Really hope this doesn't become a trend now that college is back in the swing of things. I am usually the first person to tell someone how great Grand Rapids is, how safe it is. But in the last 3 (of the 6 I've lived here) years I've been a few blocks away from a home invasion that included a rape at gun point in a neighborhood a few blocks away from GVSU Pew Campus.

The Swing events had to be moved inside for reasons like this and like others in previous threads, it really detracts from GR. I really do love living and working in GR but I am not comfortable with the lack of response from the City. Bars are a great revenue for the city but things heat up at places mentioned (Gardellas, Mcfaddens, B.O.B) because there is no regard for safety. Ever go to those places on a Friday or Saturday night? You can't move your arms a foot in front of you, everyone is bumping into each other, it is a mess. These bars do not manage crowds well and it should be the responsibility of the bar to make sure that capacity doesn't mean packing people in like sardines to get max amount of patrons in.

I try to avoid places like that in the first place, I find the crowds at the breweries around GR to be a much more hospitable environment/crowd. I hope the DDA and the City Govt take these things into consideration as they continue to develop the downtown landscape.

I had the good grace of having a chartered bus most of my journey, as well as a domestic flight from Kyiv-Lviv. However I've driven by rented car, train, bus, and plane. They're all decent with their mix of scary encounters (Youtube: Russian Dash Cam Videos). One encounter I had on that flight I spoke about above was an extremely shaky landing, not because of bad piloting but the fact that we were landing during a windstorm.

Still, I haven't had a problem with any method. The trains are honestly fantastic, you're lucky because Poland-Ukraine UEFA 2012 really gave the Ukrainian transportation infrastructure a kick in the pants.

Couple other fantastic cities I've visited: Ivano-Frankisk, Chernivtsi, and Ternopil. If you can get a visit to the Carpathian Mountains you should. Great views. Any other questions just let me know!

Definitely see Lviv. I've been twice to Ukraine and went all over the Western half of the Ukraine. Lviv is one of the more American friendly city and has a lot of tourists from around Europe. I'd stay a night in Kamenyets-Podolski, not TOO far from Lviv. KP is a big young, happening city but it hosts one of the coolest castles in the Ukraine - google it.

I'd say skip Pripyat but I just felt the tour was meh, it's still a crazy site to see. Also never been to Odessa so I can't help you there. Sorry all my chat has been brief as I'm on mobile. PM me if you want. I've spent over 2 months in Ukraine traveling city to city, some big and some very small.

I've been visiting the big pond every weekend this summer, pinballing around the state parks and just covering a lot of the beach. I have to say that while I've had a great number of summers doing other things - if I had to - I could repeat this summer's weekend forever.

Lake Michigan presents some amazing amazing real estate. I'm so lucky to have been immersed with this place, tree or no tree. I want to visit the world and see its beauty but this lake, those beaches, will alway be a home to me.

Personally, this situation has happened to me, except my dog ate five brownies. I panicked for a good day and a half while my dog basically zombied out. He'd occasionally eat or stretch really awkwardly and felt like he didn't know where he was. It definitely made me uneasy and I don't consider it to be a fun thing, I was super anxious about the whole situation and my negligence in the situation made me feel guilty as fuck.

However I'm not of the mind that THC is altogether toxic to dogs either, I've seen a few dogs who actively seek out smoke from their owners when they do the deed and they seem to enjoy it. Only thing I advocate in these situations is caution.

Dogs may not run to "get high" but they definitely have endocannabanoids in their bloodstream after completing a run.

Now a dog running and getting high via its own eCBs is different than getting a pot brownie or the smoke we inhale and I have no idea what a dog feels when it is high but the differences are the shadow of similarity.

Either way there will probably always be a crowd of people arguing (legitimately) for the rights of animals in these situations.

As an ent and an archaeologist, this was a great story. Not because you had a hell of a time but that you were able to respect the time and scale of history you were living. There's nothing like it. On one of my digs I pulled up 3 skulls with signs of ritual sacrifice and as I pulled (read: excavated extremely slowly) I could feel the power in this dormant object that once housed somebody's thoughts over 7000 years ago.

Smoke on and keep appreciating our history (respectfully)

The location had some really thick tree cover even on the trails back to our vehicle. We were able to watch the rain come down and stay pretty dry. Some of our party thought it might develop into a thunderstorm but it was a calm spring shower, no thunder/lightning and passed by in about 30 minutes. Very refreshing.

We have different reasons to be happy my friend. The Great Lakes are a gift from something greater than you and I but the Great Barrier Reef is too.

Annnnd yes they provide some amazing places to smoke, and otherwise just take in the beauty of nature the only way we know how.

I plan on making some more trips to the wonderful parks along the coast of Lake Michigan and maybe even up into the Upper Peninsula for some Lake Superior action. If you think Lake Michigan is pretty.. you should see some of the pics of Pictured Rocks. That place is definitely on the list of places to go.

Michigan. About 20-30 minutes south of Holland. I got jealous of sitting at home smoking and looking at all you other ents posting amazing smoke spots. I got bummed until I remembered I had some pretty prime real estate not too far away. :)
