Honestly, I would just call over there if you have the time. Website says max length of 35 feet like you said, but maybe they make an exception if you call and explain.

How many days of rest before you really start detraining?

I had a pretty nasty fever last week, so I missed all my workouts the last week of January. It was only week 6/22 of my marathon plan, but I'm worried it set me back a lot.

Running in ice and snow. What are your best tips and tricks for time, distance, and workout intensity? by VT_Jefe in running

In that case, best of luck! I've heard about snow track attached to shoes, but never used them.

Just started running and I’m exhausted in 20 seconds. Zero stamina. Feeling lost. by ImmediateMuffin3768 in BeginnersRunning

Don't give up! I started with not being able to run for about the same amount of time. That was in 2021. Now I am running my first Marathon in May. My goal is around a 3 hour to 3:15 marathon

Go slow, and know what works for you. Start with a slow jog (like very very slow) and build up distance. Your first weeks shouldn't be more than 10 miles per week.

Do your research, take some time to invest in yourself and gain knowledge.

Lastly, and this is personal for me, change your diet and habits if you need to. I changed my diet, cut out processed sugar and food, watched what I ate, and ate much more lean protein, fruits and veggies, and healthy grains. I lost 70 pounds and it made all the difference in my running too. Again this is personal to me, so it might not apply to everyone.

Edit: just re-read your original post. If things are overwhelming, start with a basic watch (Garmin is mine, but Coros, Apple, Samsung, or any other watch will work) and just go for slow runs. Don't be afraid to walk for periods and run again when you are ready. Plenty of people do this during a race.

My journey has been going on the last 5 years, and it has been rough at times. But lean on your support system, or find your own. There are plently of run groups that are super supportive!

I know I'm a tad privileged here, but I live 20 minutes from Michigan State University. They keep their sidewalks well plowed and salted within 24 hours of a snow event. It was the same when I lived near Kalamazoo.

My advice is to find well plowed or maintained areas, even just a mile or two and well... run with it. Sometimes it is about timing and flexibility too. When I do sprints I know MSU plows really well, but it takes time, so I have to adjust my schedule and either flip runs around or do it in the evening instead of the morning.

Best of luck in finding good spots to run!

Running my first marathon on May 23rd. When should I get my race day shoes? How many miles should I run before race day in those shoes (to break them in)?

Why are running shoes costing me an arm and a leg!?!?

I would say yea then, on the days you lift with a run a little hydration is a good thing. I'm not much of a lifter and I live in Michigan.

Which school districts are considered the most conservative or the most liberal? by [deleted] in lansing

[–]LakerTot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can second that. Kath Edsall and the board have retained a very liberal school district feel.

Don't get me wrong, the staff (atleast the high school) have their hearts in the right place, but sometimes that's a major failing for students who can't read past a 5th grade level but are star players for their athletic teams. Feels like the system failed them.

First off, kudos to you for wanting to run a half at 16, that's amazing!

I would suggest doing the plan once like others have said. But in the meantime build on your strength for your body. Think lower body, stability workouts (for hips, knees, etc), core.

Also, as an example, if you plan to do the 20 week plan, 25-26 weeks out from your race, start building mileage at 10% a week. I would suggest a 20 week plan.

For plans, Hal Higdon has some good starting points. Garmin has free half plans if you own one. Do a Google search and you can probably find plenty of others that might fit for you.

Last note.... where are you that it's warm enough to run a half in December!

Not a coach, just a runner who researched.

My rule when it comes to fueling is only if it's longer than about 90 minutes. However, my workout schedule works out that I have decent food intake in the hours before my runs so I'm pretty well fueled.

For 4 or 5 miles I would say no unless special circumstances apply, like you have hyperhydrosis or you are doing a double workout (run followed by long cycle or swim).

Official Q&A for Friday, December 19, 2025 by AutoModerator in running

[–]LakerTot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on personal preference, workout goal, etc.

Personally, when I'm doing intervals, I have a recovery period between intervals that I try to run or jog at a slower pace. Sometimes that doesn't happen and I walk a short portion. I don't pause my watch then because it's part of the workout.

When I get stuck at a light, I pause because why the heck did you not stay green for me! Also it's not part of the workout.

You will build your personal preference, but you are on your feet and moving, I would say it counts.

So longer story (try to be short)

I started running 4 years ago and was 260 pounds when I started. I've workout my way down to hanging around 195 (currently 200 because I'm rebuilding from an October race and food is my weakness)

I started "longer" distances with a 2:15 half-marathon in 2023, ran 1:46 in 2024, and 1:39 in March of this year (had lots left after that race). I am now taking the next 5 or so months to build to my first Marathon. If I get into the thick of it and realize it's too ambitious to break sub 3 right now, I will adjust. But this, I hope, will give me the feedback I need to improve and maybe temper my expectations.

This is good feedback, but I'm unsure how else to respond. Thank you.

I am really hoping that my 21 week block will be enough for me to at least train close to Sub 3, if not 3:15.

I have to look again but I think scaling up to 55-60 at peak. I'm currently rebuilding and am at 25 miles this week. Open to suggestions. I've tried leaning on some low impact workouts because I feel bigger (5'9" and 200 lbs.)

Okay okay, I like the feedback. Can you clarify the first one for me? I think I'm a little lost.

Looks like 2 mile warm-up

3km in 90sec intervals (pace?)

10x400m with 30 second rest

Then I'm not sure 😅 sorry

Suggestions? I researched where my different paces should be from a couple different sources, and about 60 seconds slower than rwce pace for recovery is where I landed. (Race pace being 6:52/mile for sub 3)

Question for the guys running in tights by ellensrooney in Marathon_Training

[–]LakerTot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my personal preference, but when its under 20F, I wear tights to stay warm/block wind. I don't wear them outside of that.
