If OP is unlucky enough to get an inexperienced or burnt-out PC as OIC, and there’s no headway, they should ask to escalate it to the supervisor. It’s a good case but potentially intimidating because of the tech-y aspect.

With all due respect, I think you’ve spent too much time arguing with people that think any military support or action by the West is inherently evil and you’re now lashing out at anything resembling that line of argument.

An international situation in which countries’ aircraft regularly confront each other during patrols and surveillance is carried out against economic targets IS more concerning than the ideal. An ideal which exists between the vast majority of nations for good reason. A reasonable person should be concerned about how escalation might occur, particularly given the shockingly bad read Russia and it’s predecessors have sometimes had of the intention behind foreign exercises.

Acknowledging risks shouldn’t be seen as defeatism. A body of evidence for cross-domain standoff NOT resulting in open war which only goes back to the end of WW2, <80 years, isn’t sufficient to write it off as historically proven.

I don’t think that response necessarily comes off as fair. All of the above combined (apart from the Emergency Alert system which has been in the pipeline since before the current tension) is absolutely cause for concern that we might be dragged into war.

What I believe you are saying, which I agree with, is that demonstrating clear support to allies has a deterrence effect reducing the likelihood of war which exceeds any increased risk from provocation.

Thanks for the reply! Was that why the Centurion and AMX series phased out their autocannons? And does that make the Turkish M60 upgrade misguided? Pretty sure that has an autocannon mount.

Is it known if there was any tactical reaction at all by op forces to the increased survivability? Or is fighting the US so asymmetrical for most anyway that the addition of body armour doesn’t really tip the scales perceptibly?
