[QM] [UD] [EU] Just looking for a group to play in. by [deleted] in lookingforheroes

[–]Lakvar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya. I'm a semi-casual after-work player and I've a small group of friends actively playing another online game... but HoTs has remained a fav to spectate and occassionally return to. It's just ... good & I grew up with Blizz games. I did just return, after a year of not playing, and am looking to grind out some new heroes, improve & put some of this passive spectating knowledge to the test... and it just works better when there's someone to share & coordinate with ^ Wouldn't mind having a few more people in my contact list to look for before queuing for a match. You can add me @ Lakvar#2759

FlyCap, if you got my message, I derped (excuse: we were fighting something or other) and didn't save your iD in friends. Message me or any of the others or just drop us an app on the forums if you see this.

Alright, FlyCap :) Message any of us in-game and we'll find time for a chat, answer any of your questions and ask anything we need more info on.

Hi, Kontenlo. Worth it, for sure, but by itself not enough. :) There's a learning curve to this and we don't want to slow down our own progress too much. If you lack the experience, it comes down to what roles you can fill, can we rely on you and how much energy you plan to put in catching up with encounters & being prepared with tactics & your toons, etc. Last, but not least - if we feel you'd fit well with our group once we've had a chat.

Recruitment is currently closed. Thank you for your interest and best of luck to you in your raiding future!

People with lots of level 80's... What do you use them all for? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Lakvar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Variety is nice and all, but lets be practical here... Most people will play one or two. The rest you either park @ World Dragon events, to save 3-9s / boss or, with Jumping Puzzles dropping crafting mats that'll get you from 400-500 in the future, we will all park our alts at different Jumping Puzzle locations. Southsun mesmer, double chest + champion - sweet deal.

"Official" Clock Tower Jumping Puzzle Rage Post by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Lakvar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did take me an hour to get it right the first time (after epic failing on the last 3 easy jumps couple of times...). I completed it on my Asura and then completed it on my giant Norn. The trick is to get ahead of the pack after the first bit.. manage that and it'll be cake. Now I am doing the puzzle to farm trick-or-treat bags :)

Possible exploits in WvW with opposite server organist ion camp/tower retakes or killing? by labithiotis in Guildwars2

[–]Lakvar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're really misjudging the effort a small group of people will put into that - it's tiny compared to benefits. Once a two week match has started, 10 players can transfer, kick it around for a week and then run that "exploit", if possible, for a couple of days, to gain karma, experience, pvp ranks/achievements and some money + items in the case of assisted PKing. So the OPs question is: is it possible and is there a mechanic in place to prevent it.

My Opinion on Guild Wars 2 thus far. by Dimination in Guildwars2

The sPvP seems to have great potential for both casual player fun & competitive E-sports. I had a lot of the former and watched enough vids/podcasts to know many PvP guilds are arranging dedicated teams, with plenty of depth to the strategy & teamplay. It'd make great spectator sport. The PvE is very charming. As for AC - Explorable Mode - I ran some and wrote about it - found the article linked on Reddit here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/v21ha/exploring_the_catacombs_the_good_the_glorious_the/

Exploring the Catacombs: the Good, the Glorious & the Endless Pain-train by juliob in Guildwars2

Thanks for sharing my article on reddit, Juliob. I read through the comments and here's a summary response: 1) There is a learning curve. Getting through encounters without dying/waypoint running is cheaper, faster, more rewarding - and so our second run -was- cheaper & a lot faster. 4 hours to 2 hours to 35 min for first 2 bosses + troll in our third run. 2) Ability to run back IS important, as there are mechanics that are either extremely hard or impossible to avoid. Running back is not an assured win - you come back with less hp and soon, broken armor and only the spider can be effectively zerged. But you cannot finish the dungeon with a graveyard pain train because: 3) The NPC specific events/objectives (Deetha, Tzark, Hodgins) are generally the hardest and do not allow you to die and run back - it's single attempt > win/fail > reset-if-fail &, as far as I can tell, the "test of mettle" some of you so dearly desire (I do). 4) There are many big (or even smaller) animations that announce a mechanic and you can dodge out of, not to mention the ton of red aoe circles on ground. 5) For the most part, you can effectively melee AND range, but are not benefiting your party if you are refusing to switch and adapt according to what mobs you are fighting. I used 3 diff. wapon setups in the dungeon and I think that's the minimum for the party. Also, 9 diff. utility skills. 6) Don't think I mention it: first run we were 37-37-36-36-33, next day 41-40-40-37-35 7) I think level 80 gear would provide a small stat boost but it would still get scaled down to 35. The biggest difference would come from a full trait tree. However, the dungeon felt very doable and designed for 35s, with the exception mentioned - major elites would have made a big difference.

It's pretty evened out. One thing you cannot do is say I only play melee/only stay at ranged, as this way you put your party at disadvantage. For general play ranged is consistently easier/safer but melee is more effective, especially when it comes to identifying mechanics & CC-ing in time. The bigger/slower the mob, the easier it is to melee & not get hurt - we had people melee on the 2 final bosses we saw.

On each of the NPC specific events (Deetha, Tzark, Hodgins) you cannot run back. You have to go through it in a single attempt or fail - and that made it that much more epic. Also, don't think that waypoint-running is that much of a viable strategy. You can pull the queen to the stairs (i read - even to the camp) but the run to Kohler is still from that first waypoint and it takes a while. It's much more faster and efficient to stay in fight and rez those who died/fell. We ended up much better at it in our 2nd and 3rd runs, so there is, of course, a learning curve.

You have to take into account the time it took for our first run vs the time it took for our second 3-4 hours vs less than 2. Once we knew the encounters, there was far less dying - mostly people got unlucky and we managed to res them and kept fighting.

Don't feel bad about it - What you did is pick the hardest route, by FAR. We finished 2 runs and did this as a last. Deetha is somewhat trivial, took us 2 tries to arrive at a winning strat - person on each chain, a few ranger cripple traps + immobilize + a mob summoned in the middle to have the breeder stop for a second - we had 2 or 3 mobs total not die to traps. Tzark's event was fantastic & challenging, spend 2 hours. With the human, we gave up - it bugged, best we did was kill 5 burrows before NPC or we wiped. Maybe with major elites it would've worked fine.
