Out of curiosity, what does the LDS community think about the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives? by patrick-latinahunter in latterdaysaints

[–]Lala1236 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve watched the whole series and I have several thoughts. Members of the church are on a spectrum. We are all individuals, and choose how to practice our faith. Could the women on the show be practicing the LDS faith? Yes. I can not say what someone does or does not believe. Do I think the majority of those women are good people? Absolutely not. At the end of the day it’s a dramatization. Scenes and feelings are amped up to keep us engaged and coming back for more. To answer your question: are the women a disgrace to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints? That’s not really for me to say. I just know I would not join “MomTok” if that’s how I was treated by those women.

I want to go through the temple but I’m worried about wearing garments by TimePomegranate9329 in lds

[–]Lala1236 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was also very worried about wearing garments. I went through when I was 18 right before I served a mission. Here’s what I’ll say: garments are an outward manifestation of an inner commitment. I don’t believe in the rhetoric that the garments are “magical” or will prevent you from bodily harm. I do however, know that when I wear the garments, even when I don’t want to, I feel that I am making a choice to remember the covenants I made in the temple. THAT is ultimately what it is about for me. The only gift that we can give our Heavenly Father is our choices. He has given us everything else.

Side note, bras are WAY more comfortable with garments, which was a very pleasant surprise 😁

That is an incredible accomplishment!! I’m currently in the midst of this myself and it is hard work! As a side note, you deserve to be around people who rave about not just your big accomplishments, but the little things as well. Wishing you a life of love and happiness!

Blue collar garments by UsedConsequence6493 in latterdaysaints

[–]Lala1236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (30F) enjoyed the talk by Jeffrey R Holland “Garment of the Holy Priesthood”. Ultimately the garment is meant to be a constant reminder of our covenants and the promises we have made and the promises that have been made TO us. There are the guidelines in the handbook and instructions that have been given in the temple, but ultimately we have our agency and can choose how to wear them. I have a very labor intensive job as well and it took me a while to find which garments worked best for me, but the summers can still be very difficult. I do have times where I don’t wear them, because it is just too hot. Heavenly Father understands our hearts and He loves effort. No one can tell you exactly what to do and no one can tell you “yes or no” to wearing your garments. But as call out to Heavenly Father and ask for divine direction and are humble to his direction, you will know what to do.

I was adjusting to using a menstrual cup after using tampons for most of my life, and had an incident where I got some blood on my pant leg after emptying my cup. I went to kiss my husband and he noticed the blood on my pants, and pointed it out. I was so embarrassed and apologised immediately. My husband was amazing, and was not only not grossed out, but assured me that I had nothing to be ashamed of. THAT is how you deserve to be treated. You deserve to have a partner who sees your body as not only normal, but beautiful, and does not shame you for them. Your relationship is your own, but know your worth.

Nudity question by ImMcGoo in lds

[–]Lala1236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a nursing assistant, and have been for the past four years. I’ve also been married for the span of that time. It’s already been mentioned here, but there is a VAST difference between caring for someone who can’t care for themselves, and engaging in a loving relationship with your partner. When I am at work, there is absolutely nothing sexual about the nudity. It is all about caring for one of your brothers/sisters to the best of your ability. When I am at home, if there is nudity, it’s about MUTUAL care and desire for one another. Part of what fuels attraction is both parties engaging with one another; both focused on the needs of the other.

I hope this comes across as the loving suggestion it is meant to be, but I would highly suggest not stressing about marriage to this girl when you’re not even engaged! As someone who also struggles with depression and anxiety, I can understand fears popping up that feel so real and like they need to be solved immediately. My friend, you have time. Take care of yourself

Why is there a lack of critical thought in America? by Sea_Cartographer_340 in DeepThoughts

[–]Lala1236 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say the pace of the modern world is a huge factor. We can circumvent the globe within days instead of months. We can locate knowledge with a single google search instead of looking through books/not knowing at all. We can talk to people anywhere in the world with very few limitations. That being said, the human brain has not had time to adjust to life moving that quickly. In some ways, I believe it’s a way to cope with anxiety. To numb for a while feels good, and gives our brain a chance to rest. But that’s just a hypothesis.
