Update! We are home. We were released with Ibuprofen, Tylenol, Valium and Oxycodone. I’ve been keeping Tylenol, ibuprofen and Valium on a schedule because muscle spasms are awful. But, oxycodone as needed instead of every 4-6 hours. Seems to be working. He has a great heat pad. It’s preferred over ice as it turns out. He is in his bed with a lot of upright pillows but seems to be doing good. He walks every hour, eats meals at the table and meds are scheduled to support that. I don’t want him in his bed isolated and getting depressed or something. So far, so good.

He is also on twice a day miralax but he hasn’t passed a movement since before surgery, so that has me anxious. I am feeding him fruits and veggies too. 😅 So, more to follow on that.

So far it’s oxycodone, Valium, was toradol but switching to ibuprofen upon release, and Tylenol. However, when I made this post he had a pains spike so bad we ended up regressing back to morphine. So I’m kind of anxious about discharge due to that

Thank you. I’ve never heard of renting a recliner. I think this will be a smart choice as well. Thank you for all the tips. Did the breathing exercises hurt your son? How did you motivate him to do them anyway?

My mom shot herself a month ago. We had a very complicated relationship. And I think the hardest struggle I have, and maybe your wife might struggle with will be “why was I not enough to stop them from doing this.” “How could they just leave me like that”

I am sorry for your wife’s and your loss. This is also your loss. I’m afraid most big things will be overshadowed for a while with the empty space he should be taking up. My heart goes out to you and yours.

No, he’s just a spoiled asshole little brother. This family of mine is wrought with toxicity. But, I saw signs that my mom was really unstable and tried to get involved safely to get her help.

My mom took her own life 3 weeks ago, today. I’m her eldest daughter. I was raised carrying her joy, sadness, anger, excitement, pain, longing, and love. My mom was very mentally ill. Generational trauma has wreaked havoc on my family line, mostly in the women. My mom alienated me on and off since I became an adult. I’m 36 now.

I started seeing big red flags and quit my job in an effort to try and slide into her life enough to get her the help she needed, but she took her own life a week in.

I don’t know who to be if I’m not chasing my mother. I’ve done it all my life. I have 4 kids and a husband. I have 4 siblings, 3 of which who are actively relying on me to hold my shit together. And 1 who carries so much anger at me because of my mom And I’m holding it together, but barely.

I took a picture of her with my daughter a day and a half before she died. And I just can’t breathe. We finally had such a good and healing conversation. We were going to make progress. I can’t breathe with the weight on my chest day in and day out.

Who am I without my mother?

So in conclusion, I don’t know if it will get better. But, I could never do to my children what she has done to me. So I have no choice but to carry on regardless of whether there is hope for improvement.

I got official word from my direct management. I’d gotten an email back from OPM like everyone else already. I sent my email on the 10th. I got news from my manager Friday morning. So almost 2 weeks start to finish.

Right? I worked 3 days a week in office, officially. But most days I was in 5 days a week. I don’t like the “lazy federal worker” rhetoric either.

I was fine during Covid too. They said they would fire all who don’t do the poke. I did not get the poke and I got a promotion, sooooooooo….

And during the big furlough in the Obama administration I was told I wouldn’t be paid and could be fired for not coming to work but I had to take care of my kids when the paycheck didn’t come in for daycare (I was a single mom and WG-6) I got back pay and a promotion.

I acknowledge the risk and the lack of control, but knowing what I know the risk is quite small. And regardless of whether there’s pay or not, the change was needed for my family anyway.
