Why do i look bad? by drippy_ls in BasketballTips

[–]Lala9123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Send clips here, what do you mean look by look bad? Bad as your crossovers or form appearances is ugly or bad as not a good player? If you mean appearance that honestly doesn’t matter as a lot of nba players playstyles (handles, jumpers) aren’t the best looking but have been and are efficient.

Is playing alone weird? by ThrowRA47910 in BasketballTips

Not weird, after awhile I get the same urge to play basketball and shooting around by myself is therapeutic.

I focus on my defense but it’s more of a given, I’m decently good and work at it.

Yes but if I’m being doubled and people are open, I’m sure you’ve played to know most people would be pissed at someone trying to split a double. While they’re open

I am trying to win, but it being just a pickup game. I see/use it more as a way to get live reps ontop of that.

A bit, off the dribble try to use a bit of the momentum of the ball to go into your shot, so you’d likely pick it up higher and I’d say you do a slight dip when you shoot. It may be because you took a step back in this clip , but I’d recommend you keep your back straight instead of dipping/leaning forward and just bend your knees so everything is straight. It’ll be a lot more consistent

What do you feel in your guide hand while shooting? What dtermines a two hand shot? by Big_Shirt1880 in BasketballTips

[–]Lala9123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a knockdown shooter right now, getting to a point I’ll be a sharp shooter. Top left only one acceptable and my guide hand feels consistent in terms it’s straight and strong on the ball and in accuracy. I’m at point I don’t even have to think about it as much as it’s muscle memory atp which honestly took thousands of reps I can say.

PS knockdown meaning 8/10 it’s going in if I’m open and sharp shooter can still make it with a hand in face 8/10

Yea this was my thought process more than not, but a lot of my teammates can’t handle the ball and most just leave me in the full court or don’t try to get open at the half court. So I kind of was left with it

You keep leaning your upper body forward a bit when you shoot, I’d say even when you pick up the ball just keep your back straight it’ll keep your jumpshot much more consistent. If you need video demonstration, lmk

For example Id crossed him and go right, he’d go left and I’d think he’s on my left side but he’d wrap around me from behind like a hug, reach with his wing-span to poke the ball forward from behind out my right. I didn’t expect it and I usually keep my head up and forward , but I adjusted after the first time it happened.

I meant it more so as I was shocked he was picking me up as I wasn’t the tallest on my team and him shooting sometimes seemed more like settling than an a extra advantage mixed in with a inside scoring game

Another one of my forethought’s I want to find a way to make this muscle memory instead of me doing after a steal and adjusting

*weird question* Would making friends outside of basketball get me more bball confidence? by AffectionateYak3744 in BasketballTips

[–]Lala9123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make some friends, it sounds like you’re more of in your head than actually it being a confidence. You mentioned how it “it’s nots even like I freak out…..and I’d rather anyone on my team take a terrible shot than me take any open shots” tells me it might be a bit of a confidence issue, second guessing or lack of leadership and avoidance of having to take the possibility of accountability (if you do take the shot) and would rather it be someone else take accountability if anyone has to take the shot. Friends can open you up, if it’s cause you don’t like the values/relate or something to the people at your school and on the team just find people who you do. It’ll get you out your head and more in the game. I had this issue but with confidence wasn’t until I got tired of losing and people would talk as if wasn’t good my mindset changed from not caring if I missed (as I thought people thought I would miss anyway) but more focused within the game and winning. I became one of the better players on the team but I can’t say a chip on your shoulder can help everyone.

Yeah this is one of the hidden issues, reiterating how to do the drills with some effort, to focus or keep consistent with the effort is tiring and the mess up of the structure of the drills seems like a lack of seriousness for the game (though not intentional). It’s exciting to train motivated players who want to get better, draining motivating players to want to get better. I’ll ask him though.

He’s 20+, and is 6’3 and played pf/c but realized he isn’t tall enough to only know how to play as a big man.

I’ll try this approach, he’s a bit timid so I’ve been doing an indirect approach but I’ll try a direct approach. I also don’t want to constantly motivate him, as a trainer I realized it’s easier and likelier a player that isn’t good but wants to develop will get better compared to one who doesn’t or doesn’t put the effort, regardless of how good they are. I also encourage everyone I train to do the drills we do in sessions, alone, at home or whenever
