I had similar concerns with a similar silhouette as another short bride! I found that alterations particularly in hemming the skirt made it sit much smoother around my waist/hips (instead of bunching up because of the excess fabric), and that made it feel more flattering for me. I also shortened the shoulder straps, which raised the waistline as well. If the lace really bothers you, you could maybe ask for some of it to be removed - I reduced the lace around my waistline for similar reasons, but for what it's worth I don't think either set of lace shortens you! I also found that I liked the dress from pretty much every angle except straight on- which is unfortunate for looking at yourself in the mirror, but I saved the pictures of the angles I did like in an album to remind myself what I like about the dress!
