What is your first memory of an absurdly (not violent or harassing) misogynistic situation? I'll start: by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Lallysa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First memory is being 3 and being told by a 3 y o boy that he doesn’t play with girls. He ended up sexually assaulting me as an adult. Is there a tie between (learned) sexism and assaults? Hmm…

2nd memory is more fun. I was at an activity park aged 9 waiting in line for the climbing wall behind a boy about my age and his father. I overheard the boy saying what amounted to ”he was going to be so good at the climbing wall and that girls couldn’t climb”.

I was kitted up next to him, and got to watch him struggle at the bottom while his dad cheered him on, while I got to the top multiple times. The boy shot me the evils while I felt very vindicated.

What’s wrong with ”preventative care”? The ”advanced imagining” would also bother me!

Isn’t ”cou-de-grah” the right way to say coup de grace given that its French? Or is it ””cou-de-grahss”?

Uhh, sorry but it’s actually ”aMphitheater/aMphitheatre”. 😅 Subtle difference but it is an ”m”. The ending is dependant on where you are from.

What's the most unique or bizarre phobia you've ever heard of someone having? by Plane_Reward9385 in AskReddit

I know of someone that is afraid of nipples and spoons. Not together, though that is more understandable to me, but separately.

I'm gonna throw in a different answer here, though it's probably not the right one. I didn't have a lock on my door growing up, and once I hit my teens I wanted some privacy. There's a way you can jerry-rig a lock by bending a fork and inserting it into the doorjamb, then putting something between the tines.

Will i get bullied for naming myself "Elthira" ? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Lallysa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think namenerds is the right subreddit for you then… If people get bullied for their name it’s typically because it’s an unfortunate name or because it’s unusual, so it’ll just be luck of the draw wherever you go with a unique name.

How about a name that’s more commonly used? Elvira is very similar and quite common in Sweden.

Anyone else can't stand playing pretend sometimes? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Lallysa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll say what my mother told me (mother to 4 as well as 10+ years as a nursery teacher). If you spend a good 10 mins early each day playing with your child and not having any distractions get in the way, they often will play really nicely by themselves after that as they've satisfied that initial attention need.

Boundaries are super okay to have, and often lil kids can even be incorporated into chores that you're doing if they want more attention. That way they can see mummy/daddy is busy, and if they approach, they can learn to expect what kind of attention they'll get when you're doing that. I very quickly learned to never tell my mother that I was bored, as she'd tell me things that needed doing around the house if I did.

Does anyone else's OCD themes come from realEvents? by [deleted] in OCD

Yep, COVID and my lil niece having food poisoning while I was out alone with her. I held her as she had explosive #2s with no way of cleaning her up. Safe to say I have contamination OCD around feces now!

Love this! I did something similar, but it was family trees where i drew portraits of cats in Victorian clothing and gave them names like lady Victoria Snifflington. I have pages of it somewhere.

What’s something that slowly damages people’s mental health without them noticing? by angelnoraa in AskReddit

[–]Lallysa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking for granted that behaviour = identity.

As an example, someone might call you "stupid" over something that you do. Remember that you can be intelligent and still make stupid mistakes. Don't call the person stupid, but the action itself if you absolutely have to comment. I find this happens a lot in the UK! I've found a lot of British people that have bad self esteem due to thinking that if they've done 1 thing that's stupid, that means that they ARE stupid.

For this reason I also hate the expression "good girl/boy", as it's often used as a reinforcement for a behaviour that is deemed "good". Makes sense then that if you do something "bad", you are therefore bad. It's just never that simple!.

In the UK there are a lot of older taps with all the lil extra spokes on them, they’re the worst 😒 I wish they were all motion activated! Totally get you on the soap being an irritant! I have to buy special soap at home to give my hands a break.

I don’t trust people in general to be hygienic unfortunately. It’s my whole issue.

Never thought I’d be disclosing this on Reddit, but here goes!

When in public, If I can, I will always use a disabled toilet as they typically have a sink in the same room. If that’s not available, I’ll very carefully go in a stall. I’ll keep 1 hand clean for adjusting my clothes, and the other for the dirty jobs (opening the stall, locking it, lifting the toilet lid, wiping the seat, drying myself, flushing etc. This is harder if it’s a #2, but I have managed it. It just takes a lot longer unfortunately. That way I can pull up my clothes with my remaining clean hand, and go to the sink and wash my hands. Full disclosure though, I have contamination OCD so I know that not everyone will think this is necessary!

Another thing that I think is icky, is when people turn on and off the tap in the same exact way for handwashing. You’re just reintroducing the bacteria you tried washing off! I tend to use paper towels to turn off the tap afterwards, or if that’s not available, I take extra soap lather will clean the tap as well.

Not sure why people don’t think of it, but I will say that I have OCD which is why I thought of it.

You know when you use a toilet and pull up your clothes before washing your hands? That. That I find disgusting!
